  1. A good expectation to have is none. Expect nothing and forget about it for a few years or so then remember and come back. Devs aren't pressured and you don't feel anxious to get your hands on it everyone wins

  2. Going early access is a bad move, finish the product and then release it don't follow today's trend of releasing an unfinished program to the public.

  3. I think the primary reason it's going onto steam is both wider range of funding and press. Current it's sort of restricted to a certain demographic. Steam will put it at the forefront and easily playable where right now requires knowledge of game packs, et cetera.

Personally, I didnt know there website had a funding page. I thought it was on there twitter

  4. i rather have a pushed back game rather then the atrocious messes you get from massive developers these days, DF in all its rights was a labour of love and like to see it grow with that love, its one of those few games where any developer actually cares about their work rather seeing it as a means to get rich quick, i raise a glass to those at kitfox and hope the new year goes well for them

  5. viewer beware , this video makes really big claims while not quoting any sources:
big claims like when you will get bigger/bestoutcomes sales of video game in 1.0 and other big claims across video on other topic

he bases that on what? his feelings? no sources or data is given , is he developer? did he release any game on steam? spoke to any developers who did?

i think not. just 1 big misinformation.

im leaving the comment as it is but i admit i should not make comments when drunk , i apologise for what i said above as i just mostly wanted more information about some claims made , and made it sound way rougher/mean then i ever wanted to.

  6. Let's be real, the guys never were in a hurry to release things. And that's good. They are making a game they want to make and they making it good. I can wait. I believe, you all can too. And then we'll be able to just forget about all other games 😀

  7. I just want to be able to play it on Steam with the new graphics and friendlier logical UI. That’s why I want EA, installing the current version with a mod pack is not the same, and not what I want. I’ve done that already.

I don’t care if it’s still being worked on or if things are being added.

  8. > Refuse to set release date to avoid rushing it and so that gamers can't whine about "delays" or overhype the release.
    > Gamers: "Why are they delaying the game?"

Gamedev sucks because gamers suck. You just can't win.

  9. I hope they take their time, I just got into the regular version and hope to stream it, I’d hate to seem like a purist for playing ascii compared to textures or people avoid my stream from it too

  10. DF already has years worth of early access from being FTD since forever. Keep up the good work, and I am very excited to see you guys finally get an official release, however long it takes. 2025 for all I care, The only thing I ask for is workshop support.

  11. If this game doesn't fry my Old Laptop from the early 2000s I'm in,Also i think im gonna like this than the older Graphics since its gonna be more pleasing for the eyes,Also the 8 Bit looking design looks good and nice,If it can be more friendly for players it possibly gonna be less daunting for New players new to this game or the Genre

  12. 4:20 "It's such a small game" Lol! No it's not… DF is one of the most complex games ever programmed in what regards gameplay. You need to have massive brain to program a game like this and there is nothing small about it, that is why it took many years to get where it is.

  13. I only ever seen short clips of or simply heard about the original dwarf fortress, I looked into this and decided I'll get into the game when it comes out. Cannot wait, the more I read about the game the more it looks like it's infinite content, I hope it doesn't get rushed though.

  14. As someone who works in software, the mantra "We'll release it when it's done" is vital to the successful launch of a product. Happy to see Tarn and the team really taking that seriously and not giving into the pressure to provide some date or window. I know that the push for a release date comes from a good place (excitement and anticipation), but it ultimately creates artificial pressure that can effect the quality of the outcome. I hope they continue to brush off requests for a release date/window and just continue to update the community on progress.
