Dyson Sphere Program – Factorio in Space? – First Impressions

Checking out Dyson Sphere Program, a base-building / automation game similar to Factorio and Satisfactory, but at the same time, quite different. Released in Early Access in January 2021.

  1. Lol talk about coincidence : I'm rereading the Pandora Star/Judas Unchained books, where Dyson spheres are one of the key plot elements. Very interesting game. Thanks for sharing !

  2. Putting up solar panels all around the sun is a much more effective way of generating energy, than on the planets.
But are there even enough materials for that in the star system? (or in our system at least?)

  3. It drives me crazy how games these days are "early access" or still in beta, yet they're trying to charge for it like it's a finished product. And a lot of them never leave the early access state, yet charge $40. It just seems like a combination of lazy development and greed. I'm always skeptical as to why a company would release an unfinished product, yet still want people to pay for it.

And this seems to be the only business that does this. I'm a chef. If you were to order a meal and I brought out half the ingredients and told you, "Go ahead and pay me for it and I'll be back later to finish cooking it more while you're in the middle of eating it.", you'd look at me like I was fucking crazy, and rightfully so.

And don't give me this financial backing excuse either. Same example, if you came to a restaurant and they told you to pay first, then wait there while they run and buy the ingredients, you'd look at them like they were fucking crazy.

  4. Your opening statement makes perfect sense. I've spent 150 hours on the game so far and I'm nowhere nearing the end of interesting stuff to do in the game.
At my point it mostly involve designing production or research after 30 pr second (max speed conveyer belt)and having enough ressources per second to do so.

  5. The advisor is Isaac from Dead Space?

Got Super Mario Galaxy vibes from the approach to the planet.

The beginning of the game is like using a Gundam to do harvesting and menial tasks. Puts a whole new spin on Gundam BUILD Fighters. (and I love how the wind turbines are modeled after DNA helixes unlike the ones in Texas that SOME say, don't work in the cold.)

6:40 Memories of the Red Alert series.

20 minutes in and I think I want to see a series on this!

Are there any completely submerged water planets? I'd really consider giving this game a go if there are!
