  2. Good stuff Pixel I got quite a few 16 bit era magazines myself. Mine aren’t in mint condition though. I still got that GamePro with SF2 on the cover when it was getting ready to come out for the SNES. I got that EGM with Turtles in Time on the front cover as well. Just to name a few. I have GamePro, EGM, and Nintendo Power magazines from the 16 bit era. Yeah show some more magazines I’d like to see what you got.

  3. This was all we had back in the day. No internet just a few magazines that would come out once a month. We couldn’t get on the internet and look at game footage of the newest game coming out we just looked at the pictures. You know what I loved every minute of it! I worn them pages out back in the day anticipating the next big game coming out that I wanted! 16 bit was my favorite era growing up and still is to this day!

  4. I had that magazine as a kid. Sure the Genesis was rated high that year but following years it would be the SNES gettting the higher ratings. ESpecially once SNES got its port of Street Fighter 2. You have to remember that Nintendo was playing allot of catchup to the Genesis at this point and Sega was in its prime that year. Sonic, Strets of Rage and games like Star flight (the ad in the mag) where something completly differant from Nintendo's usual offerings. But as we pass into 92 the SNES would get more mature games that would erode that ground Sega had made. Everybody wanted more mature content back then.
Oh and other mags where talking about how Nintendo was sueing everyone then too. They got a black eye on that one with the gaming comunity. It does not mean EGM was Sega biased. If I remember correctly the SNES would soon become the best rated system for a few years in a row in following yearly round up EGM magazines.
Damn that does take me back reading gamepro, EGM and Gamefan. I swear sometimes I spent more time reading the mags then playing the games.😂

  5. Dude, lol I liked this video more than I should. Brings back memories…gave me a case of the members. Also depressing when you realize it was almost 30 years ago =(

  6. Had a giant trunk full of EGM's, Gamepro's, and Gamefan's back then. I think my mom ended up burning them in a big rubish fire. Neverthough collecting game magazines would become a thing with some people. I loved them but they where basically just newspapers for kids. I actually useed some of the store adds/catalogues in these mags to import some games from the states to canada because the prices were just to cheap.

  7. This was the only year EGM chose Genesis over SNES.

EGM definitely preferred SNES from 92 on over the Genesis. 92 was a slow year for the Genesis and then at the tale end of the year they went balls to the wall. Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 2, World of Illusion, Thunder Force IV, Ecco the Dolphin, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Sunset Riders and Road Rash II.

Of all the retro magazines I would say Game Fan probably holds up the best. Still all the magazines have there fair share of head scratching ratings.

  8. wasnt the rumor that sushi-x was like a pseudonym for a rotating guest reviewer, not a real person?

Edit: Google is (not) your friend

    >>Thanks to CJ Johnston's weblog for its discussion on the true identity of U.S. videogame magazine EGM's secretive early/mid-'90s writer, Sushi-X. Johnston, a former EGM staffer, muses on the origins of the character:

"The way I figure it (and I'm guessing here, since he appeared in EGM before my [1994-era] time), the Sushi-X persona was inspired by [Japanese videogame magazine] Famitsu's Taco-X, a reviewer often dressed as a ninja"

, and goes on to claim that the Lloyd Mangram-esque Sushi-X,

"often the 'swing reviewer' who would pan something the other guys 'liked'"

, was originally writer Ken Williams. However,

"soon everyone else on staff was taking turns playing Sushi-X"

, and, even post-EGM removal, the often composite character was resurrected for the now defunct GameNow magazine in 2003.>>
