I couldn't agree with you more! Even though I'm a Barnsley fan and used to struggling (not this year though👌) promotion and relegation is part and parcel of the game and it's the excitement and uncertainties of it all that makes it's interesting, something to fight for! The ESL is just a rich man's boring sterile idea of football and of course to make even more wonga! Nice dig at Oil City😂😂
I completely sympathize and agree with your sentiments. I however don't agree with a lot of the arguments I have heard (and not just from you). Saying that the players that belong to those clubs wouldn't be able to compete in the EUROs or World Cup is just ridiculous. So if an english player plays for a puerto rican team does that mean he can't be called up for competition? That literally makes zero sense to me.. once again I reiterate that I agree with you and think ESL is an awful idea. I just don't think a lot of the arguments I've heard make much sense. If ya don't want it you don't want it .. but claiming FIFA would ban players from international competition or that the FA could dictate to the manager that all players in the ESL are not to be picked is just pure lunacy.
This has been a crazy few days and has really opened my eyes how different we as americans view the sports world really are.
As far as the rampant xenophobia against America I'd like to speak a few words. These are 3 BUSINESSES men. They aren't the american soccer presidents. They don't represent Americans or their views towards soccer. They are BUSINESS PEOPLE TRYING TO MAKE MONEY. It's just so confusing to me that this has been turned into a "euro vs american way" argument when I can confidently say 90% of living americans don't even know what the bloody ESL proposal is… This is not america trying to take over the sport. This is capitalism at work lol…. The amount of vitriol and hate I've seen spewed at the USA has been hilarious. I've heard callers on talksport calling us "fat slob idiot's" etc etc. I could go on lol.
Thanks for the provocative video and I hope some good discussion comes of it. My comments aren't directed at you personally paul just an all encompassing thought bubble on the situation. I also fully realize that this is your situation and for you to decide and my opinion as an american has no bearing and matters little. This is your guys situation and you can solve it however you see fit.
Association Football in the US dosnt have the same history or pedigree as it does in England or Europe therefore it is formulated as all major sports leagues are , a closed league and franchised clubs that are first and foremost a money pig for the owners . That mentality is whats driving this money grab called ESL , with complete disregard for the relationship of fans to their clubs. We should be ENRAGED as this model will render whatever is left of small club culture into an irrelevant cul-de-sac
