Festival of Giving, but is it GOOD? | Update Review | Sea of Thieves

The year is almost done but Rare has one more update for us. Gilded voyages are back, a new cosmetic type is now available and some more events have been added in this merry update called Festival of Giving (you know, the exact same name as last year). But, does the year end with a bang or does it feel like Santa skipped our house this time? Let’s find out.

  1. The new cosmetics are really good, and the update feels like last one, except more polished, and excited. I'm ready to hop back into this game again.

Now to find a crew of my friends who actually want to try sea of thieves.

  3. 1:08 The 12 Days of Giving is going to be the same stuff since there's little Rare could do that doesn't have achievements, or commendations, or whatever related to it. Those PvP-oriented ones? Those have Bilge Rat commendations too. At least Umbra's immortalizations are easy to do, since each outpost has several. Finding 11 CCBs and a crew who doesn't run from the Mark may well take longer than finding 10 LotS locations.
1:58 Going to point out that these Eastern Winds cosmetics are an Ashen Dragon reskin. But they'll also be in the Desirables for Doubloons section of the Black Market so it's nice to see them available for those few new players with the drive to do these but not the doubloons to buy them later.
3:46 If you had bought the bundle (which for your situation gives nothing now), the flares for that set would've automatically been given to you. However, buying every item individually costs more and makes you buy the other pieces. Very annoying that future sets will also have that problem. Also, wow, even Rare has been afflicted with calling everything even vaguely related to Legendary status 'Athena'. I thought they'd at least call it the Pirate Legend flare.
6:05 I like the Frozen Horizon collector's figurehead, it's funny to just have a colossal block of ice on the bow. I think it, and the frostbite set (which is notably inscribed with skeleton runes), seem to hint at that ice region players have bugged Rare about for so long. It might not be everything they want, but it's something. Those runes don't have known translations, in case you were wondering.
8:25 I would assume the Frostbite set will make a return with much more when its update comes, and the Frozen Horizon set and Glacial Curse pets to return next Festival of Giving. The Eastern Winds set will definitely be in the Black Market, and the Gold Hoarder and Order of Souls set equipment pieces are confirmed to be buyable later, along with the rest of those sets (most certainly for obscene prices, of course, which is good) behind a related commendation barrier.
8:38 From the whispers and shouts on the waves I've been hearing, the Seasons are both a sort of better version of the daily bounties (in terms of being an attempt to get players to complete obsolete mechanics which provide variation but are often ignored, like animal run voyages or the Reaper's Mark) as well as a new update system – each should come with its own update, having been constantly worked on over 3 months instead of 1, meaning they can have a whole lot more. Next month's update isn't going to be a slow start either, it seems instead it will be the culmination of several months of a portion of the team working on it instead of the updates we've been seeing monthly.
Among the updates we'll possibly get an expansion to the ghost forces, though likely not all of them hostile, and of course more subfactions of the skeletons with how Rare has been hinting at Greymarrow leading a Shadow of Fate army against Flameheart. Then there's the merfolk race who still exist beneath and within the Sea, and the GMU who is still attempting to break their way through the Shroud with current attempts involving amassing Ancient Coins for their Shroudbreaking capabilities, plus the continued stream of ideas from the community of many more great monsters – giant sea serpents, birds, crab bosses, and even just hostile natural sea life. You'll get your enemy variety yet.
That bonus barrel clip was quite entertaining as well.

  4. Honestly, the event isn‘t really that great.. – even the gilded voyages are kinda meh (mainly due to you only getting ONE per year) and you can only choose one of the factions (Goldhoarder, Merchant, Order of Souls & Athena‘s Fortune)..

For the event challenges, you can just do them at the last day and still get everything…
