From what I have seen from the comments, here is what happened to Flippy.
Flippy went into the military, and after he was released, he has extreme PTSD from the time in his service. Anything that reminds him of his service will trigger him into a state where he needs to kill everything and everyone he sees. After this, he ends up killing his friends and needs to hide the bodies, so he hides from the police and apparently had to hide in one of said bodies, so he goes insane and remorses their deaths, while also trying to still hide from the police. That's what I got from the comments.
