  1. So glad you got to Chili Peppers, man. Great place to start, too, as that was the first song off their best album. (Blood Sugar Sex Magic is their best album. Fight me.) And yes, it runs into the next song. The whole album isn’t like that, but it IS best listened to in order.

That said, the tracks I think you should check out next are The Righteous And The Wicked, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, and Sir Psycho Sexy (all off that same album. Really there’s not a bad track on it. Oh yeah, and if you do Sir Psycho Sexy, try to find a video that includes They’re Red Hot, just so you can hear how the album ends. But really, yeah, can’t go wrong.

For RHCP songs not found on that album, I suggest Higher Ground, a Stevie Wonder cover that shows off their sound from before this track, when they were mostly a funk band. Also Scar Tissue, Dani California, or By The Way for a taste of their later, mellower sound. Keep ‘em coming.

  2. Red Hot Chili Peppers does not get enough credit for just how amazing they each are at their respective instruments. Anthony Kiedis has a cool voice, and he’s a really talented, unique singer. Yeah, his rapping is a little hit or miss, I’ll give you that. But when he hits on vocals he hits HARD, and he deserves acknowledgement for that. Flea is another bass mutant like Les Claypool. I mean, he doesn’t sound like Les Claypool, but they are similarly iconic. Flea is a fucking beast, and if I was a better bass player he is who I would be ripping off 😂. John Frusciante is an underappreciated guitar god. He is ABSOLUTELY who I spend my days trying to rip off in my own guitar work. He’s so good it’s easy to miss how good he is, you know what I mean? He’s so good at playing with this group that he doesn’t always try to call attention to himself musically, but any time you focus in and listen to what he’s doing on the guitar it’s always so good, intricate and precise and funky af. He’s such a good funk guitarist it hurts my brain. And Chad Smith is a legendary drummer. His playing is so tight. Kinda subtle a machine on those skins.

I’ve got nothing against Dave Navarro or Josh Klinghoffer on guitar, but something about those four guys playing together is just magic.

  3. It's funny but from 1998's album "Californication" on, the Chili Peppers have mellowed down considerably and these days they are known as a "relax in the sun" kind of band. So when you introduce current fans who ONLY know the Chili Peppers that way, to their old stuff. They simply don't recognize them as the Chili Peppers.

Try "Stone cold bush" next to see what I mean, look for the live version.

  4. Yes, PLEASE react to everything on this album. Not one song that isn’t elite. The title track is my personal fav, and Give It Away as well. But yes, this song leads seamlessly into "If You Have to Ask", hence the abrupt end, like a 'Floyd track.
