Updike’s out here trying to be a proper parent and Trollge just isn’t having any of it. What a pillock.

  1. You know, One of the reasons why this Whitty/Trollge/Kofi arc is my favorite is that it's a distinctly Gray V. Grey conflict, and it's all due to clever writing
Notably, we never actually see what Trollge "did" before GG captured them, so while they could be just as innocent the lore squad, they could just as easily be worse than Drip spirit. We don't know, and that helps us sync with Updike on the matter. With Updike, it's not about good or evil, it's about the greater good, "managing" all supernatural entities consistently, without bias of any kind. This greyness is further enhanced by how Kofi acts as a foil to Updike in either scenario, trying to resolve things peacefully, a notable difference from Updike's approach. Is she Naïve, or is Updike too cynical? Maybe perhaps, it's both.

And of course, if a certain theory about Lore!Cloud having weather powers is correct, this whole arc could be the perfect foreshadowing for a future arc between Updike- and Cloud, which would pit Updike's philosophy against his love for his daughter. Perhaps said arc might give Trollge's lines about cloud "not being his daughter" a whole new meaning. Trollge did seem to have supernatural knowledge of cloud, considering the two have never met (as far as we know). If he knew cloud was Updike's daughter, what else does he know about her? Perhaps, Trollge is poking fun at something Updike & Cloud are unaware of… After all, just because he considers cloud his daughter now… doesn't mean he always will.

  2. Had a feeling about this for a while, before this LORE, but I wonder exactly when Updike's coming back home. He told Cloud he'd be back as soon as he could, but not only does it not seem to be working out, but he wouldn't be able to explain to Cloud why he was late if he doesn't want her knowing what he does for a living. And with SKINNY BOI being a cognitohazard, they could possibly, depending on what exactly their powers are, alter their perception of time and trick Updike into thinking that he wasn't away from home for long.

And while him coming home late shouldn't normally be a cause of concern, I don't think it'd be great with Cloud still handling a rejection. Also, looking back at the first few episodes Cloud appeared in, I have a feeling it's implied she hasn't been able to make friends at school. If so, Updike is likely the only one close to her at the moment. She doesn't really have anyone to turn to until he's back.

Another thing, which I've noticed for a long time: The Howdy Cloudy thumbnail is rather peculiar. The image of Cloud is from her dialogue sprites in her mod, but notice how she doesn't appear sad yet her hair isn't fluffy. In the actual mod, her hair only loses it's fluffiness when she's crying. I can't believe TC got me into analysing a freaking thumbnail, but I believe this was a way of saying that Cloud is still very upset, even if she doesn't appear to be.

Fun fact: Updike is my favourite LORE character because the plot exists when he's around.

  3. man, Trollage is not letting up on Updike, and it's clearly getting to him.
I can only imagine what'll happen down the line, and am already seeing some theories people are posting in the comments.
the only plausible theory I've got for what Trollage is talking about, does mean that sooner or later, Cloud's gonna find out what her dad does for a living, and one of two things will happen:
    1. she'll still love him regardless,
    2. she'll be hurt and turn her back on him. especially since she herself has powers.
this could be a make or break moment for Updike, either in Cloud finding out herself, or Updike telling her himself. it'll all depend on how she finds out.
like, if Cloud found out on her own, she'd be upset and hurt, possibly letting her powers loose, and not wanting anything to do with Updike. However, if Updike comes out and tells her what he does, she'd still be hurt over not being told sooner, but thankful he came and told her.
That's how I see it, but that's just me.
