I resonated with the parents forcing you off gaming growing up. My mom used to come in to my room and tell me to turn it off in middle of game and get downstairs for dinner and I'd say ok and wouldn't, then my dad would come in next and turn it off on me lol I always planned for that extra buffer.

Parents that force their way of life and beliefs onto their kids are terrible parenting. My best friend didn't study for crap until college, and even then he still had a lot of free time to play games. He wasn't in honor or anything and just did regular classes and graduated from regular state university. Now he's married, working as a senior software engineer and making 6 figures. Just because a person enjoy spending a lot of time playing games, it doesn't mean they're going to end up bad in the long term. Often items a lot of these straight As students in your class end up struggling in life later on because they lack social bonding with people and how to communicate with people to build a healthy relationship. And you're going to realize maintaining a good or healthy relationship with people as an adult is often more difficult than work itself.
