Game Builder Garage Review

Game Builder Garage reviewed by Seth Macy on Nintendo Switch.

I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed learning as much as I did during my time with Game Builder Garage. Game Builder Garage is a powerful game design tool overflowing with charm and personality. Anyone with a little patience and desire to learn can start creating games with its robust system of Nodons. No coding knowledge is required, but you’ll learn concepts like evaluations and conditional statements without even realizing it. I do wish it allowed you to look under the hood and see the actual code, but not being able to see all those lines of boring text don’t detract at all from the fun of making games. The tremendous variety of Nodons available make it possible to pull off some really complex stuff and I’m really looking forward to seeing what creations the Game Builder Garage community cooks up.

  1. This review is as lazy as it gets. You can just watch official reveal trailer to get all same information. How about bringing real programmer on board for a week to see how far you can push the system? Or at least outline custom tools available. What’s the value of this review? Why it exists?

  2. But is it advanced enough to raise the quality of asset flips? Or will it just lead to an even greater flood of new ones as anyone who can put together 2 or 3 asset packs now considers themselves to have created something worthy enough to inflict upon others because this game would have given them a big yellow high5 or something.

  3. In Mario Maker 2 it was easy to share and play other people levels and that made it so popular but unfortunately here it's pretty difficult to share or play games that aren't shared specifically to you.
