Video game development has gone through many phases. Since its inception, we’ve had seven major phases, each with its own ideas and sensibilities, each giving us very different video games. And another one is bound to hit the next few years. But what will it be?

early upload, g' morning! 🍻
I remember when things were simple and good.
Now it's all complicated and bloated.
I'd say New Blood are trying to bring rebel punk back
I really enjoy these talks of yours. I think I was vaguely aware of some of these phases but you do an excellent job of identifying them all and putting them into words. Thank you very much for the video!
In my understanding almost all forms of media have at least 3 different kinds of creators. And this impacts the kind of stuff that gets made. There's the corporation, the startup and the individual. The corporations will always go for a cash grab, the startups will start off with "I wanna do my thing" and end up with "how do I become a corporation" and the individual will mostly focus on "I have something to say".
You can see a very similar pattern in the music industry btw. And I wouldn't be surprised to find out that this sort of difference existed throughout the history of the industry.
This difference in types of creators interacts with the available technology and overall cultural zeitgeist to bring us different kinds of works.
