Story is probably
Dad saw him near gf's house probably at a shop and the dad hunts him so he hides in the alliway and bf finds him then they rap but the cigarette was poisoned which killed him and that's why he said he was happy it was him and not bf.

I think what's going on is that gf's father made garcello kill boyfriend with that ciggarate. That's why he encourages bf to try it. And that's also most likely why he says "I didn't want that thing killing you". I'm not sure why he was using it tho
