Gilliam Souls: A Dark Souls Adventure Part 1

Now that I’m on break, I’ll probably do a couple of bonus streams, and what better way to have fun than playing Dark Souls!

This run will focus on building a Gilliam, with our final stats based on Gilliam’s growth rates. Will this be a continuous series? Maybe. This is mostly to have something to do for a couple of hours on a lazy Saturday afternoon

  1. This stream illustrates some growing pains. I'm going to be the only one who thinks this, but the first hour might well be the worst content that Bopper's put out. It's an hour of no-selling every interesting thing about the game paired with a monotone narration that only starts to give way when more challenging enemies appear.

The default for these streams is Bopper maintaining an enthusiastic and shit-eating narration for as long as it takes god to strike him down. This is good! It's comfy and it's entertaining because you can go between rooting for him to hoping for his kayfabe downfall. Here, the shtick starts to show its limits with a game that doesn't constrain him as much as a teeth-clenching Fire Emblem level; since he's counting on the game to modulate him into a more interesting narration, games that don't do that fall comparatively flat.

What I've always wanted to see is a more pronounced drifting between this Never Punished Bopper and the Professor Bopper of the video essays, the sort of back and forth that produces good pacing. The overall tendency on Youtube suggests that it's less about being entertaining content and more about being a channel you can tune into to feel a certain way so I'm the first to reduce my thoughts from being an actual argument.

He's also super wrong about Dark Souls. Tar and feather.

Edit: More Dark Souls content would be fine, but the existing format is probably more suited an MST3K ribbing on bad games. Sonic 06 is very ironically fun.

Or, something like a "Get into Dark Souls 2" stream where he takes time to focus on the things he likes about the game while answering stream questions. Probably a niche idea.

  2. Please mute, or move away from mic or something when you drink water (I assume). As someone who has a tic for those sort of noises it makes the content almost unwatchable, but I love Dark Souls and Fire Emblem and want so badly to watch more of this! I’ve done so many FE ‘cosplay’ runs of DS 1, 2 and 3. The Dragonslayer Greataxe for DS3 makes for a cool ‘Armads’ for a Hector run.

  3. You gotta turn off the Camera Auto Wall Recovery in the option menu, it fucks with the camera control so bad when it 'collides' with anything in game. That should help with some of the issues you had. (If it is off, I don't know what's wrong with the Switch port)
Edit: someone did bring it up around 50 minutes, so maybe you fixed it since then
