In this video, we discuss the development of Investment Grading Services (IGS) for the grading of factory sealed movies and certain video games, and compare and contrast this market to the speculative hype surrounding graded video games and even certain vintage comic books.

gym fresh for the win
I have no interest in this garbage.
I have hundreds if not thousands of DVD's & Blu-ray movies up the wazoo here that I don't even watch like most everyone. Now you tell me there's a grading company out there who grades this stuff ? well why don't I just buy a Blockbuster sign & place it on my roof saying back in business 🎥 RIP Netflix 🤣
Who are the crazy idiots sending their collectibles to a service that has a website…that looks like THIS?!?
Collecting sealed vhs tapes? I would run a magnet over them just for lols and grade them. No one can check the integrity of the product without destroying it.
I would love a part 2!! VHS grading is very interesting to me.
Even in the early days of video game grading I could see where a potential market might be for it, but I still don't thinks it's ever likely to catch on in the same way that comic book or even toy grading is. Apart from some very niche items I have a hard time seeing a market for this. A handful of them selling for a significant premium isn't going to sway me either.
So I collect VHS tapes because I'm weird like that. Its a hobby, not an investment. There is one MAJOR issue with sealed VHS tapes these days. Mold. A sealed VHS tape is a breeding ground for mold…moisture can still get in but it can't get out. I can't tell you how many sealed VHS tapes I've opened that looked perfect on the outside but the actual tape on the spindle was completely covered in mold. Mold loves growing on magnetic tape and I promise you these ridiculous VHS graders do not have some magical process for looking for mold through a seal.
lol, this stuff is out of control. I'm going to grade my unopened pack of 1982 Hanes underwear !
Still hoping for a boom on amiibos!
Gym fresh Shawn is rarer than shower fresh Shawn, making his insights more valuable 🤔
I'm waiting for vintage ketchup packets from McDonald's to get encapsulated and graded.
I had mentioned it on an earlier video, but the exact same scenario could be applied to the sealed and/or first print CDs and tapes. I'm sure there is a niche but I don't know if it could be the next "big thing" for manipulation.
Hey Shawn, Ex-Timmy here. Thanks for another awesome vid. I'm looking forward to your next Q&A video.
I have a friend who has thousands of DVD’s. Probably over one hundred thousand. He would always say his collection is worth over 5 million. With this new grading company breaking through now this dude is a legit millionaire!
It sounds to me that they want you to send your collection so they can bootleg it 😂
highly underrated channel. you should make a discord!!
And sealed VHS isn't that rare like video games. If I see a bunch of VHS at an estate sale there's a good chance there's some sealed movies in there. I picked up three the other day.
Great content as always, for comic books, what I don't understand is why are people paying some much for CGC books that just a few months ago could have been purchased for 100% less (literally haha) than what they are for today, just 2-3 years ago books that would take months to sell are being paid for thousands of dollars today I.E, ASM 129, 300
Calling all investors for my brand new shower curtain grading company
Of course, I agree with you, if you are collecting those items for investment you should grade them. But people have to realize one important thing. You are buying those items today or you will buy those items tomorrow because you used them when you were a kid. Those memories is what pushes you to buy today. Once an item is graded, it's boxed, it's not accessible. No kid is enjoying them and in a couple of years, when those kids will have our age now, they will not care about those items. Yes, it still gives a lot of time to speculate and make some money but you are killing the passion at the same time! As Shawn said many time, nothing is new, we are just repeating a cycle that we saw many times… Model train companies targettted more and more the adults, they specialized in high-end items for adults… Children were excluded. And as we all age, people collecting trains were no exception, nobody was replacing their customers, the companies closed one by one, and the hobby died…
I'm going to send one Blu Ray in. The Princess Bride. It's a movie that was discontinued and I own a digital version I can watch anywhere. Never opened the Blue Ray so I feel like why not? Just FYI, I'm keeping it just because i love the movie and will enjoy it in a case as novelty art; not looking at it as an investment. I can't accept grading movies as an investment.
My VHS grading company prediction came true !!! BINGO!!! My next speculation is clothing in good like new condition with made in "any of the western country tag labels" , these will be worth lots of money in the future, I am about 25% joking 75% serious, just you watch.
Totally for my batman vhs graded. To the moon!
i don't care what you look like, just your experience and brain is why I'm here
From a collecting standpoint, original VHS in box videos would be pretty cool. Speculating on these is probably risky, like all collectibles, but could be a cool display piece. Thanks for sharing this vid!
Are there people who grade food?
What’s funny is the are grading the media and not the film. They should use the same scale 😂 Film 45% rotten /, physical media 85% Fresh 🍅
VHS Grading… say what … ok….
Some items yes why not like first star wars VHS
Maybe items covid related…in years to come
A testing kit maybe
Just get cheap sealed computer games in Pokémon, Mario , Zelda and resident evil for example
Been stocking up on sealed Blu Ray & DVDs, in preparation for this.
I have a brand new Mario Bros The Movie Aladdin Lunchbox. IGS here I come!
finally after 4 months i got 20 game & watches (spanish version) plus one for me. for each one i will include an extra usb cable and the official nintendo european charger. i also found one propaganda in japanese and i got me 2 screen antiscratch protectors. it's big investment, my complete month and a half income and i don't have savings. so it's a big effort, almost like ludopathy. it's my once in a lifetime investment bet. i hope this works.
You know it's a must watch when a graded VHS copy of the Super Mario Bros movie is the video thumbnail.
the times are really changing huh lmao
How about you reach out to the company and maybe you could do an interview with them. I'd like to watch that.
Great content as always but I’m wondering who makes a better wing man? Shower Fresh Shawn or Gym Fresh Shawn?
Shawn I'm thinking about selling my Morgan Dollar collection to put all my money into James Cameron's Avatar, the 4K 3D Blu-ray Special Edition release with the holofoil cover and extended director's commentary graded in IGS 8.5 or better. Let me know what you think.
I'd pay a premium for the NBC-TV version recorded vhs of Superman II that aired in the early 80s that took the best of lester and donner but never released on dvd
