Welcome to Hollow Knight! I’ve been wanting to play this game for a long time after hearing so many good things about it, and with the follow-up, Silksong, on the horizon now seemed like a great time for it. I have actually played about a dozen hours on a previous save (some of which was streamed, many moons ago, on the now-defunct Mixer platform), but I’m starting fresh here – so while there will be an early section that I’m somewhat familiar with, we’ll likely be flying blind sooner rather than later. Hollow Knight is a 2017 2D action-platformer developed and published by Team Cherry with a focus on exploration, combat, and uncovering new areas by discovering additional abilities (in a style often referred to as a “Metroidvania”). Players take control of a mysterious bug-like figure who arrives at the start of the game on the fringes of a settlement known as Hallownest – where they must adventure: uncovering the map, meeting all manner of characters (friendly and hostile), tackling dangerous bosses and deadly hazards, and ultimately seeking to find out what secrets lie under the surface.
