Hollow Knight Silk Song | Jan 2021 Edge Magazine Update – A Genre Game Changer?

Updates from Edge Magazine December 31st edition issue 354 reveals new Silk Song information via a full fifteen page article interview with Team Cherry’s William Pellen and Ari Gibson. Silk Song is a potential gamechanger for the metroidvania genre – whereas games in the past offered players the change to re-explore the same world as a secondary character, Silk Song’s world, Pharloom, was made specifically with Hornet in mind.

  1. The wait is getting harder for this game! Happy to see you cover this as another fan of the metroidvania genre. The praise HK has gotten is truly deserved and has made its way into my heart and soul 🙂
I could gush for days about how each of my playthroughs have offered something different, even to the point there are still tucked away areas that feature NPCs or scenarios that I didn't even know existed

  2. Don't forget about the December 2019 holiday signoff. Kida but not really. Team Cherry (more specifically Ari Gibson and William Pellen) met at a game jam and did various game jams together making flash games with the Stencyl game engine. One of which is a very familiar looking "Hungry Knight" made for a game jam where the theme was 60 seconds. Team Cherry made another game jam flash game called Tomb Cat. Hollowknight as we know it REALLY began to take shape in 2014 when Team Cherry entered the game Jam Ludum Dare 29 where the theme was "beneath the surface". Ari liked the idea and the art of the "Hungry Knight" so much that he and William wanted to make a whole game biased around the knight and theme of beneath the surface and thus Hollowknight was born.
Wrong this a common mistake and misconception. Hornet is not a Weaver she is a spider but not a Weaver. Basically to make a long story short the Weavers came to Hallownest and are not the same as the other bugs in Deepnest even if they look a like. We know this is the case because the Weavers and Herrah had two separate "Dens" in Deepnest proving that the two are different. In short all Weavers are Spiders but not all spiders are Weavers and Hornet for many lore reasons too complicated to get into right now is not a Weaver. Saying Hornet is a Weaver would be like saying Samus is a Chozo. The two are linked/connected but one is not the other nor are they the same.
Nope the only Weaver enemies in Deepnest are the baby Weavers canonically called the "Little Weavers"….The Stalking Devout/s ( the enemy you showed ) According to the Hunter are "Worshippers of Herrah the Beast." (AKA Hornet's mom) They have nothing to do with the Weavers….Also the Weavers were not captured in Hallownest. They left Hallownest at around the start of the game as seen by the description of the Weaversong charm which reads "Silken charm containing a song of farewell, left by the Weavers who departed Hallownest for their old home."
That friendly NPC's name is the Church Keeper. So if Hollowknight's money System was the body run mechanic from DarkSouls. Silksong money system seems to be Sekiro's money system that is to say all rosaries will be lost on death unless they were put on a string. Putting rosaries on string in some or most cases might cost rosaries to do. Or another way to think about it is you can turn you rosaries in to the relics like the kings idol form the first game and back to rosaries with ease but Turing the rosaries into said relics in some or most cases will cost money to do.Not so fast there. The 100 different benches line is likely and exaggeration and hyperbole on Ari's part. What Ari LIKELY means is there will be more "unique looking" benches not more benches over all.

  3. This will have far more depth than any Metroidvania out there. Probably over twice as big as HK. Your be probably looking at Binding of Issac level of game playtime I think.
I can't wait. Im more hyped by this than any other game 😲👍

  4. I was pretty triggered when I found out Silk Song isnt launching on the PlayStation. I played the crap out of Hollow Knight on the PS4.

It's coming to PC & Nintendo switch..

Even though many of us have supported this game on consoles. I had a bunch of my buddies buy this game on console.

I believe they've made some kind of deal with Nintendo, so now because of this.. Console players could be waiting years longer before getting a chance to play this game. If Silk Song even comes to PlayStation & Xbox.

  5. I feel overwhelmed by the amount of people joining the hype train for Silk Song, all these clickbait videos about release dates and leeks and blah blah blah.
But this… this video was really well done and I hope to see more like this in the future.
So many other people make weird speculations or make up lies to increase the video length, this was just a totally thought out review of current information. 10/10 🙂
