Before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics were delayed a year by COVID-19, they were already the most expensive summer games. Experts estimate they will cost more than $26 billion. The extra year added at least another $2.8 billion. Thereβs still a chance they might not happen at all.

How The Tokyo Olympics Became The Most Expensive Summer Games Ever | So Expensive
Source
How about we just hold the Olympics in Greece every year? One location in a country that's already mostly a tourism based economy.
Why didn't japan hire their own person to design it
Has there ever been an Olympics that wasn't "The Most Expensive Ever?" Haven't they always out spent the previous versions?
Time to kill the Olympics forever.
Unfortunate so unfortunate …. u know how mean memes and anime shit we fail to make in this olympics
Volleyball arena: $320 million
WTF is this shit!?
I see a lot of Japanese people calling for the cancellation of the Games this year after it was already postponed. I mean, the really only loss is the opportunity for athletes to finally prove their talent but the biggest loser would be Japan itself. They spent so much money to actually build the venues and if they decided not to go forth with the Games, it'll just be money wasted. 2024 and 2028 are already decided, so it would be like 11 years at the least if they wanted to host the summer Games.
Such a waste of money.. It's sad to see how the stadiums in Brazil and other host countries became garbage. Same with FIFA WC.. Corrupt AF! They just come and suck up all the money…
get jeff benzos to pay for it XD guy has 192.3 billion.
Groundhogs day. We hear this same story every 4 years. WAY over budget, everything takes longer than expected, the costs just keep running overboard. Inflation is part of the issue, but mostly the IOC demands just increase every year.
Just now checked that this 28+ Billion USD Tokyo Olympics budget is more than 113 countries annual GDP.!
Dark side of Olympics.
I pray to God that this Olympics would not be delayed and I also pray for Japan to recover from covid. However, things are going contrary to our wishes. The Japanese Olympics should be canceled, Japan is in a very dangerous state right now, Japan's medical quarantine system collapsed. Why do Japanese people in such a dangerous situation? I don't know if you want to host the Olympics. Like they did human experiments from 1920 to 1945, they seem to think of people around the world as test subjects.
What's the point, it's going to be ruined by all the covid bio security protocols, and no international spectators too, a waste of bloody money, use the money to help get out of this damn pandemic instead, would have been a better idea than watching some athletes run around for a few weeks……!!!!.
What exactly is LA/US doing to avoid hemorrhaging $$$? π
Did the world learn nothing from Brazil & Qatar? π
The world needs to dump the current IOC and restructure the entire organization. The way it's set up, the IOC puts out no money or risk but yet makes all the guaranteed money every olympics.
The Olympics have been dead since Calgary and Vancouver ….

I feel the costs should be shared by the participating countries every 4 years. Olympics is a world event. Many countries are shying away from bidding because of the overwhelming costs. Instead, if the hosting country asks for costs from the all participating countries, it will reduce the burden of the host country and also make the Olympics better since every country will have contributed to make it a success and bring nations together which is what the Olympics are about. The IOC should also invest in it.
Time to stop this dinosaur tradition. Itβs an environmental disaster recurring every two years.
Ram Ram ji πππππ
Damnnnn JP-gov should use those money take care of their radioactive water issues instead of Olympics
I don't really care about Olympics I just want to watch their fireworks.
Corporate just want profit
The day has come for all athlete to get Covid-19.
Vaccinated all athlete is a risk.
Simple, IOC just a coporate leech to the host and participants…
… honestly who gives a crap about the Olympics?
There's no such thing as "Summer Olympics" .
There's only the "Olympics" and the Olympics with the Jamaicans in.
The olympics is a major waste of money and hurts the local population of wherever it goes. Brazil is a great example of of how it both hurt the population and economy in the local area. There is a reason why so many countries do not want to host it anymore due to the economic burden it comes with.
I didn't know Jesse Pinkman was an athlete before cooking meth
Thanks god they didnβt choose Istanbul , We are middle of the economic crisis and COVID. We could get bankruptcy π
Dang I wanna see that opening ceremony so bad! You just know it's gonna be futuristic AF
Japan is paying the huge cost of the Olympic
On the otherhand, China now going to host Olympic 2022
Japan has a policy like a meltdown to hold the Olympic Games to make money. Japanese people can't go out now.
80% of the people are against it.
I wanna postpone it to 2024.
The Olympic Committee officials; are dysfunctional delirious and deranged people. And they all need to be removed. They are helping to spread the Covid19. Everyone needs to support the Japanese people and ban the Olympic games in Japan. I pray to the Greek Gods that Greece won't allow the flame to leave this year, indeed. Love from Australia. Take care Japan!
