  1. Old printers are an amazing source of gears, belts to go on the gears, rollers and rods…if its a scanner it has a fan, glass and lights. Most often you can repair a printer with a 2 dollar part…but a 200 dollar all in one becomes years of free terrain bits. Ive used the gears, fans, lights for necromunda and kill team terrain which can be power or manual operated. Since search lights, doors and elevators can be part of the map you can interact with
The next best place to go is Dollar tree…always go there before you hit the hardware store or hobby store
They always have cheap easy to carve up tanks, trucks and toys…all 1 dollar
You can get bags of sand, rocks and slate for basing…all 1 dollar
Cheap sheets of foam board, cheap cutters, cheap hot glue sticks, cheap containers to hold all the shit you hoard…all 1 dollar
The BEST stuff is the Holliday shit for Halloween and Christmas…huge skulls, small snowy buildings and lots of string and candle lights of different colors that flash, flicker or change color. Also for Halloween you can score spooky sound effect junk…all 1 dollar…

  2. Blood is Iron, and Iron is the blood of Civilization.  Blood and Iron made hot by war, Civilizations with weak Iron fall to those stronger.  Willpower of Iron Rules Planets, Stars, Galaxies, old stars have Hearts of Iron deep inside.  Pulled out by cosmic events and spread far and wide into the galaxy.  Iron becomes Planets and life.  Life with Iron will, bends Iron to its Will, shapes and brands, stamps and pours.  The hot Iron taste of blood flows brightly from a grievous wound made by one with Heart of Iron.  Iron Hearts seek violence against those with weak will, wether to kill, or to chain with Iron.  Iron is the Blood of the Universe.
    Iron is life.
    Iron is strength.
    Iron is War.

  3. 1) got some busted tech? Rip it apart and see what bits would fit with your terrain. Heck, you can even clip off wires from models and replace them with real wires, saves you having to paint them.
    2) like S.A. said, if you've got some packing styrofoam it can make for some great terrain.
    3) save your sprues, I've been watching the Miniature Hobbyist < https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC42xwxWun-EPWQVZwxVO9JA > and he makes all kinds of things from either pieces of sprues or melted sprues.
    4) really just look at anything before you throw it away and think if it or parts of it could fit your theme, recently kept a cover for one of those scented candles because it looked like wood and it would make a great base.
    5) steal parts from board games because some board games have really cool parts to them that would make for good decorations.
    6) if you're looking for something shiny then be sure to look into homemade jewelry kits for rocks, gems, metal, chains, etc.
    7) kind of a duh since people have been doing it for decades but you can always use your old miniatures as corpse terrain.
    8) depending how homebrew you want to make your terrain you can always use miniatures/toys outside of your game's universe to use as fauna. You could also buy little decorative birds to put on your trees, depending on the size of your trees.

  4. I drink a lot ( I mean A LOT!) of coffee, the leftover containers of creamer have been a constant source of building material for making terrain, and I use extra lids from them to make movement trays for my armies . I also use a lot of mulberry branches for making things like the frames on buildings or bridges. Popsicle sticks ,just plain old small pebbles of gravel, and bags of green tea also get used constantly for various things.

  5. You can usually tell when someone’s been a gamer for a while- they know the many benefits of making your own terrain out of odds and ends. I’ve been really enjoying you and Gursh’s hobby videos lately- thanks! I hope that you guys and your families are safe and healthy-

  6. Some great tips, I like to mix Warhammer terrain with poorhammer with 3rd party, 'good shout' … pet shops do great aquarium trees for Xeno trees! I have saved lots of small bits of metal like washers , nuts & bolts for Industrial battlefields !
