Keqing’s normal attack string consists of 5 parts.
We will call N1 for the first normal attack, N2 for the second, N3, N4 and N5 for the remaining attacks.
Keqing has an extremely rapid charged attack, which culminates in only 63 frames, which is just over a second…
Meaning her charged attacks sync really well with abilities like Xingqiu’s burst and Beidou’s burst.
As you have seen, Keqing’s attacks flow fluidly into the next.
However it’s her first and fourth normal attacks that flows smoothest into a charged attack.
We will call them N1C for 1 normal attack into charged attack and
N4C which is 4 normal attacks into charged attack respectively.
On the other hand, we have N2C and N3C.
To illustrate, here is how they transition into the charged attack.
Did you notice anything?
Right – after using N2C and N3C, there is a noticeable delay for Keqing before the charged attack. Not only, that but the MV/s are worse for N2C and N3C, too.
This is why N1C and N4C are preferred more.
While these two combos will be your bread and butter, it is more important to avoid being hit.
We can make use of i-frames through the use of your dash or your elemental burst.

WHAT IS AN I-FRAME?
An i-frame, also known as invulnerability frame, is a mechanic that players use to avoid getting hit by the enemy.
When you use your dash or dodge, you gain some i-frames.
If you cast your Burst ability, or ultimate, you also gain some i-frames during the initial animation.
Here is an example for timing your dodge to evade an enemy attack.
And here, is another example of using your burst.

HEAL and SHIELDS
In the event that you get hit by the enemy, you get staggered, or worse yet, knocked down.
You need to spend time to get up, precious time that you could’ve used to reposition and ready your next rotation.
Not only that, but you also take damage and you only get a set amount of HP.
If your HP hits zero, say good bye to your DPS.
To make up for this, we need to bring a healer like Barbara.
Or, shielders like Xinyan.

The difference between the two is that a healer covers for your mistakes after the damage has happened.
While shielders are used to prepare for incoming enemy attacks, ergo, before the damage happens, into making them useless or dealing less damage to you.
The advantage of shields are that you don’t get staggered, while healing does not have this benefit.
The disadvantage of a shield, is of course, once it expires, you can’t get back your lost HP.

INTERRUPT RESISTS
There are certain characters like Xingqiu and Beidou which has interrupt resist and damage reduction effects.
Interrupt resist means your character will not be staggered by most attacks…
So, even if you get hit, you will be able to continue your combos, which is…
Yes, you are right, one of the major advantages of a shield!
The difference now is that for Xingqiu and Beidou, they also reduce incoming damage by a percentage.
Shields can nullify damage for a certain amount,
while damage reduction only reduces the damage.
Oh and for Beidou once you get her constellations, you also gain access to extra shielding.

  1. Keqing has been out since live release of the game, however I haven't made a video on her mechanics at all. While this is pretty basic, I thought the queen is still deserving to have something highlighting the mechanics part, as well as paying homage to other stars of the team too (the shielders and the healers!)

  2. Good vid, just the rotations part seems lackluster. Experimenting with keqing C0 a lot since I like tha champ, but there are really good options to do a N5 rotation. Enemies tend to hit the place where you were before the dash behind them and also lose focus with that, which gives you more time than the one you lost due to the "lag" in between hit frames. Also there are some good situations where you should use only the first portion of E instead of doing EEN1C which is the one shown in the video. And be careful because sometimes the Q will put you in a bad position where the monster has already charged an attack where you reappear. I tend to move a lot in the battlefield to "glitch" the Q animation, where you don't see the close-up on keqing and the regular animation, but instead camera stays where it was and it shows you the range where your Q hits.

  3. this was a really well developed guide! explaining all these terms that a beginner might not know is always helpful, plus showing examples!!

and a very small bonus bonus tip for anyone new to keqing: there's a slight delay before you can do the second part of e immediately after using it, so it's perfect to fit your q in there for added dps plus the extra crit rate/energy recharge before you start your dps rotations! it also gives you the highest uptime on electro attacks if you're building electro keqing im pretty sure but im bad at math so that's just how i FEEL ok

  4. It's more advanced than a weapon/artifact video but it's still pretty rudimentary. I'll certainly be making a part 2 -if I don't get Hu Tao, part 2 will come out early-. Potential Part 2 ideas!
    – combos to use against certain enemies in the Abyss.
    – analyzing other Keqing Mains videos and we will study together how they play

  6. the weapon i'm currently using on keqing is skyward blade. i have her on an electro build, 2x glad and 2x thundering, and i'm hoping to go for a full 4x thundering set.

the reason why i really like skyward blade is because of its insane er. and even though her energy cost is extremely low, having acess to her ult really helps in triggering her ascension 4 passive, which increases her crit rate. on top of that, skyward blade increases her crit rate by default. when i do end up getting lions roar, ill probably swap to that.
