Hunger Games salute used for Asia protests – BBC News

As thousands of protesters in Myanmar continue to demonstrate against the military coup, one hand gesture has emerged as the movement’s defining symbol – the three-fingered salute.

Originally seen in The Hunger Games films and books, the salute has been adopted widely in Thailand as well in activists’ protests against their military government.

But what does the gesture really mean, and what does its journey from the big screen to real life tell us about the power of protest symbols?

  1. Are you, are you

    Coming to the tree?

    They strung up a man

    They say who murdered three

Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be

If we met at midnight in the hanging tree

  2. Syu kyi had no problem defending the military when they were carrying out a genocide there though. Didn’t see an uproar in the country when the Rohingya were being butchered, just silence from the majority. What hypocrisy, Myanmar.

  3. BBC, you guys need to ask Boris or Raab or whoever suppose to be in-charge of the education system that there are currently an over production in the field of political science, journalism, Lawyers, etc. Please reduce enrollment for this sort of degrees but expand in-take of STEM ones.. the Government need to be aware of what is required for future needs cause they are in charge and being able to get UK ahead of the rest requires some ENGINEERING of what people study OK? Please plan for the future and not allow parents to waste their hard earned money if after graduation the only job available for their kids are becoming Activist and Journalist. TQ 😘

  4. Oops. Also take note, the future is all about Safe City! 😂 Fully secured and monitored with CCTV because Cops need to upgrade their hardware and also wish to avoid wrongful arrest of none guilty party. US should consider because always grabbing wrong black guy and ask people to choose which black Guy. I suggest either get CCTV (make sure it works) or next time instead of asking the victim to point which black person did what, give the victim a pencil and art board to draw out what the accuse look like. It's safer and won't wrongly jail people.

  5. Looks like the fake white supremacist "secret signal" to me! OMG!

Nice to see the people of South-East Asia standing up for what is right while America disintegrates into insanity and communist oppression.

Note: While all this happens the CCP continue to slaughter and r@pe Uyghurs and we stand by and do nothing at all.
