I Bought Fallout 4 in 2021

Fallout 4. It almost feels like the awkward middle child of the franchise. But what is it really like in 2021?

  1. Hi everyone! Sorry I was gone for a long time, hope you're all good and staying safe. I hope you all enjoy the video and I'd really appreciate any feedback!

  2. I played fallout 4 before playing New Vegas, now that I’ve played New Vegas i can’t play Fallout 4 without feeling bored. I’ve tried playing fo4 with mods but it always crashes on the railroad trial.

  3. Just started this myself. Don't care about the story – I think I've forgotten about the main quest, actually lol – but it's still fun putting grenades in people's pockets.

  4. The game performs terribly, I have no idea what this video is referring to. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed game.(On console) I crash constantly with and without mods. Its heart breaking to loose thousands of hours of progress to crashing. The game needs to be fixed. (Console) Sadly, they will never fix the damn game. Especially with Microsoft at the helme.

  5. I got this game when it first came out but have hardly played it at all. I’m gonna try it out again though. I don’t remember how old I was or when I last played it so I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense but I’m pretty sure it was like 5 yrs ago so I was 8 or 9. I thought it was super eerie because I was just running around alone not knowing what to do

  6. A lot of people show examples of bugs and jank when talking about Fallout 4, and even Fallout 76. Honestly? I've grown used to it. It's good ol' Bethesda jank. And it really doesn't take anything away from the game for me. In fact, some of the regular bugs like climbing up steep slopes and things, I've come to use as a feature. I mean, Fallout 3 and NV, along with Oblivion and Skyrim were filled with nearly just as much broken nonsense. It just wasn't always as in-you-face as some of the buggy npcs and things as 4 and 76. Honestly, the game would feel weird without all the minor jank.

Personally, I love Fallout 4. It seems to be a lot of people's least favorite Fallout game. And I totally see why. On the RPG side of things (ya know, what Fallout is known for), it sucks. Very few player choices, and the ones that DO exist mean almost nothing. And the leveling and perks are a joke. The RPG side of the game is lacking, to put it nicely. Story-wise, it's not amazing. But let's face it, I don't personally play Fallout for the story anyway. I play it for the wandering around, discovering locations, looting, finding small little mini-stories (which are better than the main quest), finding items for my collection (I save Nuka Cola, and in NV, I save dog tags). And in Fallout 4's case, I also play for the building. And all of that stuff, it does well. It's a surprisingly good shooter, with good building mechanics (despite the many "it just works" memes). It's fun to explore and find stuff. I still regularly bump into things I've never seen before.

Now, admittedly, I also have mods. I enjoy the base game, and played a decent bit of vanilla back on release. I loved it. But mods just take the things I already liked, and makes them that much better. More marked locations on my map/compass, making it easier and more fun to find and explore new stuff. More collectibles to find and, well, collect (I got a mod recently that adds 100 differently painted toy cars around the map). More weapons and armor to find, use, and collect. More mini-stories placed around the world. More misc stuff to loot. More stuff to build with, along with mods that let me place items in red spots, and even outside the designated area. Even a mod to remove the build limit alltogether, which is a godsend on Xbox. Even simpler mods that just allow you to customize weapons and armor a bit more. I know we're mostly talking about Vanilla Fallout 4 in these kinds of videos, but mods exist, and they're right on the main menu. Yes, I enjoy the vanilla game. But mods just enhance my enjoyment that much more.

As for Fallout 76, which isn't the topic of the video, but I thought I'd bring it up anyway. I even enjoy that. It's not amazing, I know, but I'm not gonna lie and say I hate it. Though, I should note, I started after the big update that added npcs.

My biggest issue with 76, is that it just feels like Fallout 4, but less interesting, and with stricter limits. Like, it's Fallout 4, but with a tight build limit and small build area. A tiny shared storage that you need to pay $100 a year to fix, and because it's one shared inventory, you can't even organize your stuff in your house. And then you have a battle pass on top of it, despite Fallout 76 being a fully paid game with an existing $100 subscription. The game itself is perfectly fine by me. I enjoy playing what's essentially Fallout 4 but multiplayer. I enjoy my small base that I build up near the starting area, right along the road. I enjoy my shops out front that I regularly get people stopping by. I enjoy my free shop that I set up for new players to grab a few things when they start. I enjoy collecting and displaying rare items. Like, as a game, I enjoy it. BUT….. the inclusion of a battle pass, and the almost mandatory $100 subscription if you want to save anything…kinda blows.

I recently loaded into 76. I collected my water from my purifiers, fast traveled around to other player's camps to steal some water and plants to sell (building is so limited, I didn't have room to plant my own stuff at my base, so I use other people's stuff. Sorry not sorry). I went over to the train near the mall to grab a few freebies other people left. And then I realized…I'd rather just be playing Fallout 4. Like, I have so much built up at my camp in 76, I can't even enjoy the building without deleting a bunch of stuff. Something I don't have to worry about in Fallout 4. So I went back to 4, grabbed some new mods, and started a new save. I'm currently at about 25 hours on it. I can safely say it's much more enjoyable without all the annoying limits that 76 has. But I will admit, I miss the multiplayer. I miss seeing people stop by my house to check it out. I miss seeing the little popup telling me someone bought something from my shop. I miss actually having people to show off my collection of rare masks and things to. I also miss just seeing player dots on the map, reminding me that there's other people around. Fallout 4, while a better game, does get a tad lonely just like any other massive open world single player game. And having played 76, just makes that feeling even worse. And considering how people act towards Fallout 76, and what kinda game it is, you'd be surprised how nice the community is. In my whole time playing 76, I only ever really found one person actively being a dick. Everyone else I've bumped into have either been passive and just kinda did their own thing, or they've been friendly. So many people I've ran into have dropped items for me just because they had extra, or reached the cap limit for the day. During events, I've collected so many extra items because people would drop their extra stuff for people to grab (usually using an emote to signal that it's there). I've had people walk up to my camp, check it out, give me a thumbs up, buy something from my shop, and leave. Like, you don't get that in Fallout 4.

  7. That’s crazy. I’ve been wanting to play fallout 4 again but my Xbox one don’t work and it was on special in the ps4 store but I’d had to reset it. I said, fuck it. Might as well try all over again. Then I came across this video to refresh my memory about the game. I checked when it was uploaded and this video was posted on my birthday… this game is filled with surprises!

  8. I love the algorithm. I bought FO4 about a month ago when it went on sale on steam, and I can’t play it yet because my computer died, but this is literally perfect timing for this video

  9. While i respect everyones opinion to like fallout 4 it saddens me to know it became just an exploration shooter with the odd RPG/building mechanic in a fallout setting, it took away all the things i find the most interesting (story/RPG mechanics, interesting in depth characters etc) but atleast i'm glad people can get enjoyment out of this franchise but the bethesda games will always be spin off's in my irrelevent head cannon

  10. Just warning everyone: DO NOT start this game during exam times or anything similar where you don’t have time to spear. You will end up throwing everything else out the window to play this game all day
