Technically it is storing a block of wood so it is not useless! (hopefully the chest feels better now)
The chest can be used to easily sort the inventory by putting same items together, useful to those players who just put stuff randomly in their inventory and always have a full inventory because of it, drag it in the chest and boom, one stack
