Balan Wonderworld PS5 & Nintendo Switch Review
Balan Wonderworld is a brand new 3D platformer by director Yuji Naka, but is it good? The demo received mixed reception, but does the demo define the game?

  1. While I understand all the problems with the game especially the seizure with the final boss but I still like this game for it's been my emotional support during lockdown when I heard of this game and I hope it prosper thus becoming better.

  2. Might get flack for this, but here I go. Take it what you will, guys.

As someone who had been spectating the entirety of what Square Enix and Yuji Naka have been doing with Balan Wonderworld during the time it was getting released, I remember actually noticing how a lot of people were demanding for a delay (and rightfully so considering the demo was… very bad). I pretty much figured that Square Enix rushed Yuji during the development of Balan Wonderworld, especially when you point out how they didn't notice ANY of the bugs (ESPECIALLY THE EPILEPSY BUG WHICH THANK GOD THEY ADRESSED BUT MAN WE NEED THAT PATCH ASAP) until the day before the release when everyone was outraged by it (not to mention Balan's design for the ending AND Lance's…. Oooohhh boy…. As a person of color, that design gives off red flags). I don't think a game should have been given more time and cleaning, not rushed into production at its worst state. It's like baking a cake, you need to have the ingredients or otherwise it'll end up very messy. The mixed receptions the game is having is pretty much to be expected, especially considering this wasn't the only time Square Enix rushed their developers. Even for a platformer, it should not be that high of an amount. If anything, considering its quality, it could have been somewhere on the lines of $30 to $40. I know Square Enix has a pattern of making EVERYTHING $60, but I don't think it was really a good idea to make every single one of their games at such a high price in the first place, and that can also be said for Balan Wonderworld.

Yuji Naka entering Square Enix was a bad idea. I feel it could have been more better if he made Balan Wonderworld at SEGA instead. Square Enix has been awfully known for shady acts and put people through development hell (kind of similar to EA and how they rushed McGee during production of the McGee's Alice games). What I saw in the gameplay footage of Balan Wonderworld, I was excited. The last thing I wanted was to find out that a lot of people were disappointed with the game's release and for a ton of reasons. As someone who enjoyed the game, I have to agree with some people: The story is wonderful, the movie clips are amazing, the graphics are top notch but the gameplay could've been done better since it's…. ehhhh??? It's alright?? But I don't think Yuji makes good fit for Square Enix's company.

I do recall, however, how Kid Icarus had the same fate when it first released. Like Balan Wonderworld, it had mixed to negative receptions and had controversy centering around the gameplay. Same said for other games such as Sonic Unleashed, NiGHTS into Dreams, you name it. If anything, I feel Balan Wonderworld might end up being a cult classic. If Balan Wonderworld gets a remake/sequel and improves from its mistakes, hopefully it'll get better reception and they would actually listen to us, because what Square Enix did is a reminder of what not to do when producing and releasing a video game. Otherwise, Square Enix is better off giving away Balan Company to game corporations that can benefit and repair its reputation and make Balan Wonderworld even better.

  3. Why cant we jump while wearing certain costumes? Either give us a jump button or make transforming instant or allow us to transform while moving

  5. This game seems way more of a chore to collect everything rather than a fun experience sadly. Still better than yooka laylee. That game was a huge disappointment for me. Played 5hrs and literally had no desire to finish it.
