There's a lot of actual companies who will pull data from a drive, even damaged drives. They can be costly, but given the popularity of this I bet a few would be willing to do it pro bono to be the ones who were responsible for finding the game. Plus she's spending 100$s on parts and investing ridiculous amounts of time.
This reminds me of a cartoony object hunting game I used to play. It was on Big Figs Games and the protagonist was called "Moxie". She was a detective with a football shaped head and string hair. I really miss that game.
I swear Markiplier played something similar to the creepy fishing part in one of his 3 Scary Games series. But that was JUST the fishing part.
