With the recent “adjustments” (let’s be real they’re 100% nerfs) to the summoner spell Teleport, I wanted to make a video discussing my thoughts on why Top Lane feels like the most useless role in the game. Whether it’s true or not depends on each person’s opinion, but it’s definitely one of the least influential roles in the game.

There is a third problem with herald that I think both this video and the (current) comments section missed. Herald is an objective often controlled through bot lane. If you watch pro play you know exactly what I mean. Once herald spawns, the team that gets pressure bot can rotate up to midlane, which puts the team in a position to do herald because if a fight breaks out they will have superior numbers. So you could gank top to get herald, sure. But you could also just gank bot and then still get herald anyway.
i go jhin mid and nothing bad happens
The first 2 drags are the least important drags, each individual dragon doesn't give you much. People can just roam from top lane but most low elo players don't PUSH THEN ROAM. Don't blame the role blame the lack of fundamentals
remove jungle and make a second support role, oh wait this isn't dota
I'm sorry vars but I don't like this video
If you switched dragon to top and Barron to bot, then it doesn’t change anything. Adc and support would go top and top would be bottom
Me a shen main laughing at everyone else's loss of tp 🤣😁
Counter pick is absolutely hell hole, if u unfortunately have to lane against a ranged champion or the 4 horsewomen of apocalypse, might as well write ur suicide note. Duelist class is extremely over stats atm and can brute force over juggernaut/tank with Ignite (please don't tell me to bring Ignite top as well, using cancer against cancer doesn't fix anything). Dragon pressure (buffs, 2 kill snowball, plates) is so much better than Rift Herald pressure (1kill snowball, plates). The amount of Burst Damage atm is absurdly high for no reason, so Juggernauts/Tanks still gonna die fast no matter how feed they are. And against, with the new TP nerf, Riot proves that they don't give a single fuck to top laners. What a time to be alive 🙂
what they need to do is make getting counterpicked less punishing. top lane needs another option as to how to get back into the game instead of being caged with a lion. hell, a second lion (the jungler) might just come on in as well. there has to be some way where bending over and getting spanked is not the only option available for a matchup like fiora vs aatrox.
ive been playing top for several seasons now and i decided to drop the role in favor of mid this past preseason and it's probably the best decision ive made. playing top just started to feel insufferable at times especially when you're forced to leash your jungler at level 1 and the enemy top laner will most likely have control of the wave by the time you're back. after playing mid for a few months now I actually feel like I have more impact and influence this time and it's overall a better lane and game experience than top lane.
Maybe with the new teleport.
I think that, as you said, you can't solve the problems top has unless you change the game from its core.
Anything you try giving to top laners to make them stronger would be a bad idea.
And making extra obj in top or switching drag with herald is useless, people would just end up switching and sending adc/supp top and bot would be the new solo lane and keep the same issue
I have been a long time top main. But about when season 11 hit i kinda fell out of there. I felt like no champion from my usual roster had any impact anymore. I couldnt really put my finger on it bit something was off.
Not only did Tanks just not feel tanky anymore, but the teleport changes just sealed it for me. Im Moving to the Support role for now as most of my Champions moved there anyways.
Now all i need is to find a was to make my Boy Yorik a viable Support and im Set xD
Bet this release after Janna top build =))

So, it's snowballing. Again. It seems that every single League's problems stem out of it.
This didn’t make bot more useful just made top less useful imo
I want them to add a permanent teleporter that goes both ways. The entrances would be at each corner in the extra brush and would have a 15 second cd. Would to top to bot or the other way around
If they swapped where baron and dragon were, im pretty sure bot lane would just go top and nothing would change
It would be cool if there was a hyper-specialized toplane summoner spell introduced, similar in complexity to smite's attention by riot. Something like 7-4 min cd teleport(out of combat only; cd based on level) or 3 min cd buff summoner: -10% damage taken, +5% damage dealt for 5 seconds, reduced to 40% effectiveness if there are any nearby allied champions, excluding champion clones(wukong-w/shaco-r ect.). They would have a shared cooldown, meaning one has to wear off for both of them to then be available(pick 1 at cast). This S.S. locks out being able to take Teleport or Exhaust for the user. SS disables for 75 seconds if you spend more than 120 seconds too far away from top-lane pre-15 minutes.
Give top lane 3 summoner spells? One mandatory TP and 2 free choices?
How about hide the top lane match ups and make the top lane as a blind pick 😂😂
Top is fine
What if we add a new shop top lane. Yeah, just like the one in the base. But it will have 3 items only for that shop. They will be sold for 5 bounty hunter's coins. These items have their own inventory slot and only one can be bought by each champion. The shops keeper will give random task every 3 minutes. Who ever does this task gets one bounty hunter's coin. Task may include killing two certain jg champs in the top side or scoring a kill in the top side. Killing the Rift Herald rewards 3 coins for every member of the team that killed it in the top side of the map. Now the highlights. The items: let's say they are 5 because if they were only 3 some champions wouldn't have what to buy. Armor of the Titan (meant for tanks) would give you huge armor and magig resist. They increase each time you CC an enemy. Assasin instinct (meant for assasins): The active marks an enemy champion. If you manage to kill him you'll get a huge 90 AD buff on that enemy for the rest of the game. This only in case you're Rengar and the enemy adc gets Imortal Shieldbow. The power scepter (meant for every AP champion, be him mage Mordekaiser and, because the assasin one was only for AD champions this one works on Elise and other AP assasins as well) It gives a 600 health bonus and increases AP by 20 for each enemy around. Bow of tranquility (meant for adcs) gives bonus MS to kite enemies and increases crit damage by 30% for 5 seconds each time you score a crit. Aria of Serenity (meant for enchanters) offers the stats for a suport item that increase power of healing and shields and has an active that increases the damage of every ally around very dangerous when enhanches a Zed's entire combo's damage or an Veigar' ultimate damage.
This the top will become a priority for jungler to preasure for mid to roam and for suport to roam. And even Vayne top has an item from that shop. The items themselves are multifunctional since an adc or a fighter can select assasin instinct to increase his damage against enemy adc. The user can select as well a Yasuo or another 20/4 enemy champion that is hard to kill. Or selecting the enemy Kayle to kill her before level 16 will make it easier for you after she gets to level 16. Or a bruiser can take Armor of the titan to be tanky. Imagine Riven or Ranekton being unkillable. The catchers can take it as well. And the best part is that these 5 items don't have duplicates. Only a single champion can buy the item. So if there are tank junglers in the game they have to fight top for the Huge armor and magic resist buff.
Please tell me your opinion and if it can be improved by any means. Have a good day, Vars!
The problem seems to lie in the symmetry of the map but uneven distribution of champions so how about this, we make both bot and top lanes duo lanes, with mid being the only solo lane. That way junglers are better incentivized to go there. Although proposing a change that drastic may as well be rebuilding the rift from scratch from the sheer amount of tuning required for the addition of 2 more players in game
I would argue that Toplane isn't really supposed to be a carry role. (Keep in mind: this is all from the perspective of an ADC/Mid main) While I've been playing League, most toplane champions are either tanks or fighters- or in rare cases, supports like Karma. Fighters as the only exception- and even then there are cases of this- Toplane champions, even if they aren't classified as tanks within League, occupy the ROLE of a tank, absorbing pressure for their team and making the enemy have to target them or else be overwhelmed, thereby allowing the more damage-oriented members of their team (Usually Mid and Botlane, but Jungle is a mess recently so they're probably included now too) to do their damage with far less threat of being killed. If you've got an Irelia jumping onto you and slapping you in the face with flying metal swords, you have to get her off of you before you can deal with the Ashe or Varus pelting you with arrows. Toplane, in my eyes, has always seemed like it was intended to be, effectively, a solo-support lane. Not necessarily traditional supports like Soraka or Janna, but champions like Shen or Poppy, who while not healing/shielding/buffing their team every two seconds, aid their team by taking pressure off of them. It feels, to me, like a lot of people who are toplane players and are complaining about the state of toplane currently are thinking about toplane like it's midlane- a solo-carry role- when, at least in my eyes, that's never been what it was supposed to be. And honestly, I don't blame those people- I don't think Riven would fit into Midlane well given the role's affinity for burst mages and assassins versus battlemages and fighters, and Jungle's identity is fundamentally undefined (As supported by the diversity of champions in the role), so I don't know where those kinds of toplane champions would go if the role was truly just a solo-support role. To me, it feels like with the exception of Botlane, the roles of League don't really have a clearly defined purpose. Riot has made league so focused on diversity and allowing champions to be played anywhere and in any way, that they effectively made it impossible to clearly define what specific roles and classes are designed/intended to do. That's how we got things like a Marksman having stealth, mobility, and a revive passive (Akshan), and how we got Assassins with full-team crowd control (Qiyana), or Supports designed to be able to carry games for their team (Pyke, and debateably Senna), in spite of the fact that that isn't what their class/role is supposed to do. I think the problem with Toplane is rooted in the problem with all of League- the game has been generalized to the point where technically, any champion can build any way they want to (With limited exception, because AP Xayah can never exist since she has no AP ratios, but that's the exception, not the rule) and every role can contribute the same amount of pressure and fulfill the same purposes, and because of that, nothing really has a clearly defined identity anymore.
