Lately I’ve been seeing this trend of gamers making compilations of memorable/impactful video game moments and thought I’d throw my hat into the bunch. I’m not sure who started this trend or when it started. Nonetheless this is my take on it.

Like all of you watching, video games have left a huge impact on my life. Whether I came home from a hard day of school or work I always looked forward to loading in to the latest game I’ve been waiting to finish. We understand the complexity that video games bring. That’s why it’s jarring to hear “it’s just a video game”. To us it’s night and day. Video games do something neither book or movie could ever do. To me they aren’t even as some put “interactive stories”. They’re so much more than that. We embody ourselves in these hero’s/villains/characters whether it be because we can directly relate to them or because they have such deep development that it engrosses us. We feel their struggles we interact with their struggles. Through those struggles we learn to overcome. Whether it be the embodiment of a boss or the overall goal of the narrative, we strive to the completion. Not just because we want to complete it but because our characters want/need to.
