These days, Emulation is less about pirating and more about preservation and an actual love of these older games that companies like Sony, don’t care about. If they won’t give us a legitimate way to give them our money for these older games then we don’t have that many options.

You don't have to tell me about keeping old games around to continue playing them. I still have the Atari system that my brother and I got for Christmas in 1977. I also have the Commodore-64 that I purchased for $500 in 1984. There are some fantastic games on those systems.
There are great games on every generation of every gaming system ever made. I have either owned or played many of them. They are a form of art and need to be preserved.
When VHS first came out, the movie and TV companies claimed that people were stealing their stuff because we were making copies. That became a legal case and it went all the way to the Supreme Court in the US. The court ruled that copies of movies and TV shows were LEGAL for personal archival purposes. You can copy it. You can own it. You just can't make money off of it.
Sony had better just shut the hell up about "illegal" copies of games, especially when they intend to "orphan" them. If they push, they may just lose that argument.
I still have VHS. I still have an open reel player. Jesus, I'm old. When did that happen? 😉
"Emulation is about preservation."
That's really refreshing to hear considering all the bashing it gets. My only concerns on the subject is if the company ever wanted to re-release, or even remaster a game, there might be people who would hold off from buying since the free version they have is good enough. (Talking about myself here too 😬)
But I still don't know where I stand entirely. I know this video made me miss some Phantasy Star Online though.. I don't have my old copy anymore either, so there's only one realistic way to experience it again.
