How bad is the League of Legends account selling problem?
Over the past 10 years, League of Legends has skyrocketed in success. What was once known as a Dota knockoff to now hosting over 180 million players worldwide, the hit MOBA has become a leader in the MMO universe.
Though the game has amassed an abundance of skins to purchase to give your champions a new look, there isn’t a trading system by design to allow one to trade said skins with friends. Everything is locked onto your account the moment you purchase it unless you decide to use one of your refund tokens. Additionally, the skin you purchased for 1350 Riot Points is permanently yours and only yours to keep. So when players decide to quit the game because of personal reasons and totally not because of toxic players they’ve encountered on the Rift, their accounts end up collecting dust in Riot Games’ servers.
Other players, although against Riot Games’ TOS, might opt to sell their accounts for some extra cash. But what if your old account with lots of skins and rare icons was suddenly listed on eBay… and it wasn’t you who listed it?

It's kinda insane that you can completely destroy your MMR in a single afternoon and you can't really do anything about it but:
A) Hope and pray that you have a streak of wins to improve it (which is a coinflip since League is a team game)
or
B) Get a new account from the black market in less than 5 minutes and pick up from where you left off, with a rare skin or two.
The account market is something that will always be a thing and profitable enough. Unless Riot decides to allow people to forcefully reset their MMR, which is its own can of worms.
LoL in did
Next do Valorant account selling
What always worried me is that people were able to steal passwords apparently fairly easily, yet didn't have access to the mail accounts. What that looks like to me is that the passwords… probably weren't or, worst case, still aren't safely stored in for example the form of a hashcode. Which is a gigantic security flaw.
Here's hoping that I'm wrong.
Oh hell yeah, i'm early
Maybe this is what happened to my brother's account a few years back. He was suddenly kicked during a game and had problem reconnecting. So his character just stood in base then a few minutes later the account started walking and even chatted, we were so freaked out. My friend contacted support and changed password and when he got the account back it has some games played in his history. Support didn't reply so we didn't know what happened after that.
nce4hh
VUM.ONG
So ebay is the black market 😭😭
Whip whip watch me nae nae
To be fair, most Black Markets are unofficial
Thank you guys for the consistently amazing content. It gives me something great to watch just before I go to bed!
Got to Diamond back in S4. Sold my account on ebay. The account got banned. Never looked back at league since. Feelsgood
This shows that candy crunch is a more superior game than this kids game. I mean what even is this game? Some childs game with make believe critters fighting each other, no skill required. Tsk tsk, get a better game guys.
My valorant account got hacked once but thankfully Riot support replied quickly, and was solved within a few hours. Remember to change your password if you actually care about your accounts
If you have an iron4 account, you are in the same % of numbers of accounts as a master or challenger… so its pretty tame honestly…
Fucking "indie" company took 12 years to use 2FA to secure their user's account info. Meanwhile valve got to use it upon dota2's release. Bravo riot games. Your spaghetti codes never cease to amaze me.
Also, the "moba" term to define games like lol or dota doesnt make even any sense. The term moba can also be used for tf2, csgo, valorant, or any games that is in a online battle arena with multiple players in it. Riot games forced this term to our mouths in order for lol to differentiate itself from dota, because deep down, lol is just straight up inferior clone of dota.
7:39 NEVER use password managers PLEASE.
Wow… Fascinating,
Now everyone will make their 3rd, 4th and hell more account and let the hacker hack it, sell in on e-bay and well.
Wait for the next 4 years and sell it for yourself WITH the email, high price tag tough.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I stopped playing league back then but I left the account linked to my discord.
So I was surprised when I saw myself having the discord status display playing Ranked solo when I was just chatting. Got my acc back but my play history is ruined bcs I don't play ranked at all.
Same issue in Dota2
Man, I used to play LoL in like 2012-2014, and tried get back into my account to play valorant, but couldn't because the email was changed
Thankfully, they actually have an option to reset the email back to the one it was originally used to create the account, something I appreciated
I played one game and never touched my riot account ever again
Im honestly thankful that theres no trading in league. My worthless steam account got spam for years because i had inventory set to public with 100 bucks worth of skins on it, i can only imagine what it would be like to own the old pax, beta, alienware, ranked and championship skins on a public market in league
shout out to Moldova. i sat next to a Moldovan guy at a Thai restaurant in NYC one time
My account was hacked. I noticed last year when I wanted to try out the game again. My summoner name was some Russian name and ofc the region was also changed. Riot support got me the account back within a couple hours of contacting them and they even let me change the email associated with the account to an email I actually use.
Why would you not link his video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZXyjbddqwE
Having skins isnt that much of an achievement anymore, since the hextech boxes are very generous.
Imagine getting your Bronze account hacked and sold, and you get it back and it's challenger with a shit ton of MMR. You play it, and you get autobanned cause you suck sk much, the system thinks you're griefing.
I got my account hacked 2 days ago
dota cheap rip off
Zoho vault or bitwarden ? 🤔🤔
This is like Runescape trim armor
I'm still waiting for you to do a Gundam EXVS episode!
I love black markets
Most of the people that buy these accounts are cheaters. They obviously dont want to hack on their main account so they just buy cheap accounts from elsewhere, play on it for a few days, and then if the account gets banned/reclaimed they dont give a shit because it isnt their account lmao.
Also they want high level accounts so that people dont think they are hacking ("Why would he be hacking bro look at how many hours he has").
Great video, love the work guys!! ❤️
Honestly, I bought a rare skin collection account on ebay from an ex-Riot convention worker and the dude was super cool and was exactly as described. Legit had everything, all PAX, rusty blitz, black ali, young ryze, silver kayle, OG urf ww, etc. plus over 200 regular skins. I'm sure this is the exception though, plus he was Canadian lol.
Is there such a thing as official black market?
It's lucrative and there's demand. Same with overwatch, fortnite etc. Why waste time when you can pay up and get a stacked account. Screw the TOS
Also I'm taking about account that are sold by original owners or sellers on sites like EpicNPC. those are perfect for collectors
I was shocked "pokemon12345" used to be my password when i was a child 🤣😂😂😂
