    The reason as to why they have the "Boston" accents:

    When cinema was developing in the United States, actors used to employ English accents so as to sound upper class and distinguished as back then, one's reputation meant so much more. As time went on, the artists and actors of the US developed a hybrid English-American accent and this proliferated widely into what you know as the "old timey radio voice", also known as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Atlantic_accent

    This accent then fell out of use but not everywhere and not all at once. Once you start an idea, it's hard to kill it off and so what you're hearing is the specific regional dialect of a now nearly dead accent made to bridge the gap between English theatre and the American everyday (wo)man.

    If anyone is interested, I can explain further as to where their slang comes from – it's actually a really interesting story stemming from a nursery rhyme
