Let's Play The Medium Xbox Series X – The Medium Xbox Series X Intro Gameplay

Join Horror fan Aoife Wilson as she starts out with a new game of #TheMedium – a psychological horror game of two halves in which hero Marianne exists in two worlds at once, the so-called ‘normal’ realm, and the spirit realm. Can we navigate the scares (and the fixed camera angles) in order to solve puzzles and keep Marianne alive?

  1. I really do love the aesthetic choice of having both views at once. Don't have an XSX (like most people) but I'm glad it's coming to PC. Should give the ol' 2060 a workout. Like most people, I'd have preferred being able to control camera angles, but since it's set in the 90s, I guess they decided to go all the way and give us 90s level of camera angle control as well.

  2. Glad you're enjoying, some of the scenes and sounds are beautiful in a creepy clever way. Nice to see you're enjoying it more than Zoe, who tore this game a new one ha ha! Which did upset me a bit.

  3. Gosh, this game is beautiful!! Its not just the setting, but the presentation too.

What kind of resort is Niwa? Its a government issue one. The Germans had them in the 30s, and the Soviets did later as well to a lesser degree, large complexes built and run by the government to bring the ideals of the government into the hearts of the people. If you want to look into one, try Prora. A 4.8km long building along a beach in Rugen.

Nobody did brutalism like the Soviets. Its a matter of perspective as to whether its a good look or not, of course, but there are examples of brutalism that are absolutely gorgeous. Plain, basic exteriors may look boring but the beauty can come from its simplicity or allow other parts of the building to shine. The High Court of Australia is by far my personal favourite because of the grounds it's in and the way the interior light works with the structure to give it life and colour. Flat concrete facades make for a wonderful canvas for artists and light shows so a communal building could become a sort of… communal art project.

I'm an architecture student… and I couldn't help myself!! Haha!!

  4. I'm left thinking this is very much a story I'd love to watch as a movie or TV series, but not a game I actually want to play. Please do continue, because the story is very intriguing, and I'd like to see it to its conclusion.

  5. Honestly, Id kinda like to just watch Eurogamer play through this all the way, cus im curious about this whole story but no way in hell am i dropping $50 bucks on it. It also borrows soo heavily from Silence of the Lambs that edges the line between being a homage, and being lazy almost plagiaristic writing.

  7. "happy birthday" is not really right tho, even if the person feels like being "reborn", happy anniversary ought to be the correct one.
Also, suddenly placing the character in a "strange surreal landscape" worked well enough for Silent Hill, did it not? Granted if they did that, it would be just a plain copy of that game. But frankly the split screen seems more like a gimmick. An interesting concept, but based on what I've watched, not as well realized to its full potential… Just saying…

  8. Not to nitpick, but that's functionalist/constructivist architechture, not brutalist architecture. It was (and still is) extremely prevalent in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. So you'll have to blame Le Corbusier for that one, Aoife 😀

  9. I know the whole 'talking to yourself' trope can be overdone in games, but I for one relate SO MUCH. I talk to myself like Marianne all the time >.> Also, this game gives me such Kate Walker (from Benoit Sokal's Syberia) goes to Soviet Poland vibes!
