I just found you and finished ep1 as you uploaded, keep it up =)
So far it doesn't look like stealing would be necessary. And if you look at the roleplay aspect it is not that smart to start stealing as soon as you arrive in a small village where everybody knows everybody.
You probably already know this but in a town if you use the sence that shows you mushrooms and stuff itll show you where the traders and quest people are in the town.
This game has a certain flavour that makes you want to play it more and more
If you hit the deer with two spears it'll slow it down enough to strike at it with the spear in hand. This is an early game tactic, once you get your hunting skill up you'll be able to hit harder and attack better. The bow further improves this. Spears (all) aren't great for taking down game, but it is for slowing them down. They can bleed out however, so you can stalk them.
The deer will die a lot faster if you use Head shots .
