  7. restart, 7 day week/season/thingy (long enough to really feel like a season and get a lot accomplished, not so long it takes forever for the season to change), what kind of person wants to pay more taxes??
    settle in mostly the same spot, but perhaps a bit farther down the river by the island, instead of by the crossroads, and keep the village proper built a bit tighter so that a proper palisade will not need to be so large/long to make it around the village, with the farming plots outside your walls, food storage/tavern area and crafting/storage area laid out with a bit more forethought and organization
    try to look for a better caliber of villager, and then save before interacting with them, so that you can redo if it doesn't go well, you got the biggest village on the map quite quickly it seems, and while low class villagers can do things, with more time in a season you can do a lot yourself, and wait for a better class of villager, and make certain that your Get them when you find them
