  1. these ppl are pathetic they have been making games for the one x/one s/ps4 pro/ps4/switch for the past 7 years it cannot be hard in less than 4 months to back to making games for a console that is like last gen with ray tracing.

  2. I’m confused! Is it actually better than a 360? I mean why is it running 1080p? Someone please tell me. 1080p is old tech right? I mean wtf? Why is the tech so old 1080p came out forever ago. Someone explain.

  3. Which part of it being a budget console do people not get?? Ok let me see if I can simplify so that some people's brains won't overheat processing this simple fact. Do you expect a Prius to outperform a Lexus LFA ?? Well if you do then I rest my case.

  4. Rich hope you see this… as a long term fan and lover of Xbox… we all know the series S was a publicity stunt from Microsoft, in fact a great one at that. Of course it’s gonna bottleneck and they’re already in the works of a newer console to disband the series S. That’s what these companies do (of course Sony took a better approach) but yea.

  5. If there is a console that is holding back something, that is switch!! They can port games!! There is no reson to build a game for 9nth generation on S system, but I think its bigest strength its also a flow, games are becoming huge, and internet connection are not so advanced, at least in half of Europe where I live!!

  6. They can use mechine learning and VRS too keep the resolution at an upscale 4k and 60fps like cone on now the xbox series S has several different performance enhancement features too achieve this and more

  7. More worried that the limited ps5 gpu will hold back gaming than the S, with it’s rdna1.1 and real lack of hardware features. Scaling is easy compared to missing variable rate shading, missing mesh shaders and missing harder enhanced AI . A prediction for you, halfway thru this gen and the ps5 will look like a dinosaur. Don’t even talk about the SSD it has a one second advantage wow! The power just isn’t in the ps5 to do more than they are getting day one. They can’t even fix the OS from bricking their consoles….

  8. This is not a accurate assessment of the article.

The article says the GPU may end up being a problem. However this Dev still isn't using the full power of the X/S.

The PS5 with it's RDNA1.1 is more likely to be an issue sooner than the Series S

  9. Guys let's not listen to the Devs at 4A there one of the worst developers at optimising games Exodus was shocking when it was released …. Cyberpunk is great on XSS and the new hitman looks fantastic the only bottle neck will be the developers not the console ….. 🐎

  10. I will not be buying the Xbox Series X due to the ridiculous lack of any exclusive games (I have a gaming PC that runs Xbox games anyway plus I have a PS5 for its exclusives so I really don't need one).

However, I do own a mostly-unused Xbox One X, you know that console Microsoft released only 3 years ago and discontinued last year in favour of keeping the woefully underpowered Xbox One S!!! The Xbox One X at least has 12 GB of RAM so I expected the Xbox Series S to at least have that as well. But, no, Microsoft decided on 10 GB and a measly 512 GB internal SSD, presumably to keep costs down and hit that $299 price point?

I do not think the Xbox Series S will hold back games this generation; I just think that it may suffer in terms of resolution, framerate and graphics than the Series X version. The Series S does not support 4K games so it does not need 4K textures which in turn mean it needs less RAM and Microsoft's Smart Delivery system deals with all that. Also, games can be scalable as seen on PC where you can run the same game on an 8 GB low end or 32 GB high end machine without compromising the experience for owners of the latter. Developers should already be used to developing for an infinite variety of PC hardware so it really should not be that difficult to develop for a finite number of console SKUs, scaling down stuff for the lesser hardware and adding extra features and graphical effects for the more capable hardware.

The big limitation last generation was not the GPU anyway, it was those weak Jaguar CPUs and the fact that the Xbox Series S and X have basically the same CPU, one clocked slightly slower than the other, means that games can still have advanced A.I, physics and all the other wonderful things that come with switching to Ryzen CPUs.

  11. The promise of the same level of support for the Series S and X can be troublesome in a few years. If Microsoft imposes devs to develop for both consoles to release on Series X, I can see some studios releasing PS5 exclusives (or PS5 + PC only) so they don't have to optimize for the Series S in 2 or 3 years when the low GPU power makes optimizing the games more work than third party developers want to spend.

Looking back at the Microsoft bought studios, they might have thought about that already and that's why they made the investment already

  12. TLDR for people. Dev says making games for 4k/60 and downscaling to Series S with their renderer presents a challenge they don't have a good solution for yet. Rick "Series S is holding back a generation……..horses".
