More Sony PS5 Games Are Heading To PS4…

Today out of nowhere Sony announced that several PS5 games will also be cross gen such as God of War and Gran Turismo 7. While God of War Ragnarok was never confirmed as a PS5 exclusive, Gran Turismo 7 was actually advertised in a trailer as a PS5 title.

  1. there are millions of people stuck on ps4 unable to buy ps5 and they want to sell games, so why not tap into that hugh audience, sorry but it just makes sense, and when they made that old comment they couldnt have predicted all the troubles in manufacturing and getting new consoles out to people, a company is aloud to change strategy, it just makes business sense, end of…. people make a news story out of anything, the games will be great!….

  2. I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again: ps4 still reigns supreme over the ps5…and that’s not a good thing.
It’s already been half a year and the ps5 doesn’t have a library that makes it stand out.
Just look back at the ps3’s library of games at launch, it had new IP’s—even if they were available in the Xbox 360–that weren’t dominated by last gen games.

  3. I would love to see true current-gen only titles, but to be honest I don't think that we would be seeing quality titles at this point in time. Does anyone remember new-gen exclusive games in the launch year of prior generations? The were mostly of bad quality. It usually takes at least a year after a new generation is released until "interessting" AAA titles are released. Since PS4 and Xbox One consoles have pretty much become small PC with much better scalabilty. Thats why we can have titles like god of war after 1,5 years after the consoles releasedate. Hardware like the faster SSD need to be considered in the planing phase of a game to deeply take advantage of and not be a gimmick. I think Ratchet and Clank's usage is a littel bit on the gimmick side aswell, because it uses the SSD like an active gameplayelement and not just to enrichen the world detail and it's scale. I really wants to sell that feature in an obvious way instead of naturally integrate it to support existing conventions. I would assume that Rift apart isn't even truely showing what the current-gen is capable of. Developers still need to figure out how to harness the new available power. I guess in around two years we will even look back at the games that come out 2022 and consider them rather last-gen.

  4. Make games for one certain machine limits profit it’s a company which wants to make money especially if the console numbers are not high enough to cover the cost of the game I would imagine.

  6. And to think that Microsoft got CRAPPED on for basically doing the same thing. At least in that situation, they were transparent.

But see… In the end, it doesn't even matter. I think it really is the lack of transparency in regards to ESPECIALLY Grand Turismo 7 that's really causing a stink.

Especially with how hard it is to get a PS5 before the scalpers do. You never wanna feel like your money is wasted.

I WILL say that more people being able to play the game and enjoy it is a good thing… But the cross generation thing DOES come with compromises. And with Grand Turismo 7… wellthatwasafuckinglie.mp4

  7. If Gran Turismo 7 gets released on PS4 it better be a demake. I don't want GT7 to be another GT6, and by that I mean a game that's held back by a previous playstation generation.

  8. I can assume God of War will be similar to the 1st and the game already looked great so they'll still be able to deliver a quality game but, it's not pushing the PS5. GT7 is more disappointing because we won't be getting a true next gen racing game. This is the result of Sony not having any pressure to develop exclusives to sell PS5s. They can barely keep up with demand so they'll just continue putting holding back.

It sucks for PS5 owners but, people will have to wait 2 or 3 years for a true next gen game.

  9. the reasons is simple they should have waited until they had enough ps5 manufactured now they have the problem thats most people can t buy a ps5 cause sold out for many years. but games still comming out so they have to give the player base something. there 110 million ps4 sold well and an barely 8 million ps5… iths that simple its just sad

  10. Finally a Sony fan talking about GT7. That is the one really under my skin. And how many more games are going to be held back by the PS4? As some who worked hard to get a retail PS5, yeah, part of the reason I wanted it right away was for GT7.

For me a corporation trying to create the illusion that they create games that last generation pro version console can't keep with a so good created game that players need to buy a new console and when they can not create these 110 millions ps5 so everyone replace the last console they revealed the truth.

  12. They are not going to repeat the failure of game preservation of the ps3 era.
And to all the ps5 owners crying in the comments, cry harder. You should be happy that previous PlayStation owners can play some of these new games.

  13. I think the one thing that interview is really saying is that GoW and GT7 /could/ be on PS4, rather than them 100% saying that it will be. The way I see it, and the way Sony probably also sees it, is if they can release those games on the PS4 by doing things like reducing resolution, framerates, particles and reduced lighting and still have it look good and play well, then why shouldn't they?

This sort of thing will likely grow as technology does. The changes between generations aren't going to be a sharp incline, if anything it's eventually going to plateau. We'll eventually get to the point where the games being made don't need the power or speed of the high end console as the power available in the previous generation is more than adequate.

You're probably thinking that we could get better resolutions and better framerates and while that is true, we're already on the verge of aiming for the possibility of 8K120, how much more do we actually need? Even then, 120fps will likely never become a gaming standard largely due to the fact that the general consumer will not see any benefit in it. So that will end up being a setting that will only come up in a handful of games and will certainly be far from the default.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Sony and Microsoft start to consider expanding to running two generations simultaneously, akin to what Microsoft is already essentially doing with the Series S (practically an Xbox One S ver. 2) and the Series X–their high end model.

In terms of GT7, while it was initially advertised as PS5 exclusive, lets also bear in mind that no preorders have officially opened for that game, no one has put money down for it, no one has been conned into buying a PS5 version of the game when they could've gotten the PS4 version if it happens.

While there will be some people who may feel conned into the fact that they got a PS5 for the game, I'd say that's more on them than Sony. Why would you buy an entire new system for a game that isn't even available to preorder yet? As for other crossgen titles, every single one of them was announced to be crossgen before preorders went live (not to mention that trailers listed them as PlayStation exclusive, not PS5 exclusive).

At the same time, I think we have to realise that these things can change. There's quite the possibility that some of these games weren't initially announced for the PS4 because the devs didn't want to say that they would be available on that hardware without being comfortable that they would actually run on the older hardware (this is probably going to become pretty common now after the Cyberpunk fiasco). In a lot of ways, it's why I think that the PS4 version of Forbidden West is probably still up in the air a little bit because I can't really think of any other reason as to why they haven't opened preorders yet for the game (with the amount of games that go on preorder with a TBC date, it can't be because they don't have a release date locked in).

Looking at how things are though, Microsoft absolutely didn't deserve any of the flack they received over them having the vast majority of their games be crossgen (pretty sure flight simulator is the only game that they are releasing just on the Series X for now). Especially with consoles becoming more and more like preassembled gaming PCs with the potential specs to match, games should be developed in the same way.

Games on PC allow the player to mess with different settings so they can play the game not only on the top of the range PCs but also some pretty low end PCs. This isn't something that has held back PC games at all so if PC devs can do it then there's no reason why console devs can't, especially considering that the money comes from the software sales rather than hardware sales, the focus should be to release the games on as many platforms as reasonably possible.

Ultimately, I wouldn't say that Sony lied exactly but, their marketing and choice of words did lead many consumers to assume exclusivity to PS5 for many games. However, as I have already said, this was cleared up before the game was available to preorder (unless you got it from one of those sites that throw up orders whether they have confirmed stock or not, in which case, you already knew the risks–looking at you ShopTo).

  14. I’m so tired of hearing Forbidden West name knowing they showed this game and it’s still a YEAR! away because for some reason 4YRS isn’t enough time for them to get their game out. 👀

  15. Without going first into the fact that I don't get how it's bothering someone that someone else will play the same game as you on another console, there are more than a hundred million PS4 out there. The PS5 had a good start, but in a post-Covid year, with shortage of new consoles, it's a very good move, for Sony I mean, to bring those games to PS4.

As for the concept of being annoyed by exclusive titles coming to other platforms, especially an old gen platform, I'm kind of baffled by player's reactions. Now I can get that you'd be a bit annoyed if you paid 500€ for a specific game that actually gets released a couple of months later on a console you already had. Or that you don't like being lied to by marketing (I don't like it either). But be frank: if you bought a console the first year of release you didn't buy it just for this game, you know you are probably paying for the hype, you know you are testing a first gen hardware that will be lesser than the following releases of the same hardware…but also know you get the best version of a game if it's cross-generation.

I mean, I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 on my white PS4 from 2014, that I already had to clean once because makes more noise than my Xbox360 from 2007, and I wish I had a PS5 to play it on, don't come and tell me I got the good end of the stick…If I buy the other semi-exclusives, I promise, I won't enjoy too much 😀
