Morrowind is the third entry into the main Elder Scrolls series, because we don’t count Battlespire, Redguard, Dawnstar, etc. My Morrowind review is comprehensive, including content from the plugins, addons, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon. I also cover the game’s world of Vvardenfell, Soundtrack, Transportation, Seyda Neen, Thieves Guild, Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, House Hlaalu, House Redoran, House Telvanni, the Imperial Legion, the Imperial Cult, the Morag Tong, the Tribunal Temple, and the Main Quest in this retro analysis. I’m writing like this because search engine optimization is very important for channels my size. This Morrowind retrospective also discusses the writing of Douglas Goodall, Ken Rolston, Michael Kirkbride, and Todd Howard. I primarily played on the Xbox version for analytic purposes as well as the engine port OpenMW.

  1. Thank you for all the kind words. I put in a lot of work expecting this video to get only 200 views and disappear. For context, I had 72 subscribers when I published this video.

The tutorial that rhymes with "Spudgrings" is "Goodsprings" from New Vegas.

I've put ads behind the title cards, so if you go to a section via timestamp you shouldn't have to see an ad first but please leave a comment if this isn't the case or for any other ad-fuckery you see.

    Original Comment: IT IS DONE.

  2. I remember playing the Telvanni quest line for the first time, I did Neloth's quest thinking he'd be my patron but instead I committed murder for little reward.
Really, Bethesda, why DID you bring back Neloth?

  3. I’ve literally listened to these soothing tones every night for the last two weeks to send me to sleep. Thank you. Take me to Cyrodiil and give us a seven hour Oblivion retrospective. You are the chosen one.

  4. This is nearly on academic level. You created a historic memorial to one of the most important games ever. Write a book, bring it to the world, so that this knowlegde will survive beyond the era of YouTube. Gamers of the future have to be remembered about Morrowind.

Outstanding work. Thank you so much!!

  5. Great analysis.

In relation to your question on the end of the main quest. I fully agree with the ending being underwhelming. Even in Oblivion the battle at bruma was not too bad after clearing the cities from Oblivion gates.

It would have been relatively easy to have ordinators and house members spawn in dungeons of dagoth ur and fight with you.

  6. I enjoyed this video immensely and would like to donate (I would like to give like 10 usd or something), and haven't seen a like to paypal or patreon anywhere in the description.
Is there any way to support you beside subscribing and showing this great vid to friends?

  7. I first played morrowind after inheriting my brother's original xbox. I found the game in a bargain bin and the blurb on the back sold me on it. I couldn't wait to play it. Unfortunately I'd never played a traditional RPG and therefore had no idea what I was doing. Everything was frustrating and confusing.
But I still played for about 30 hours. All I did was wander around, fail fights, and get very good at lockpicking. I don't think I completed a single quest, but I did get very, very rich just by stealing everything I came across. I guess my point here is that I couldn't do that in any other game, at the time at least. If it was anything else, I would've hit some walls that prohibited from me playing more. But not in morrowind. It just… let me do that. And I love that about it.
I'm only 10 minutes into the video, but just hearing you talk about it made me think of this.

  8. If your watching this and havent already played this game do yourself a favor and play it. Even if your restricted to console its still a viable way to get the Morrowind experience. I played this game when I was 12 on my xbox. And again at 14 on PC. I played modded and vanilla and I just recently beat the game again om PC and Xbox One.

If you dont have a proper PC go buy it on the Xbox Marketplace. 10 bucks for over 100 hours of gameplay is well worth the cost of admission and you will be restricted but you will still get to play one of the best RPGS of the 2000s and its something everyone should experience.

  9. Gonna go ahead and comment as I watch through it. Cuz why not?
Now, the only ES games I've played are Skyrim and ESO. And I can wholeheartedly say that Skyrim is the worst of them all. Still good, but the worst of the series. ESO is great if you want to explore Tamriel in it's fullest, but I find that it's combat system is incredibly lacking and really brings it down. But Skyrim did do me the service of actually introducing me to the series and I've filled my head with knowledge from throughout the series and can say that I do have an appreciation for the entire series.
So on the topic of Vivec City. The fact that it's so huge is probably because in lore it's supposed to be huge, each canton is said to be big enough to be it's own individual city. But of course this didn't have the original mastermind creating the game. Who, if I remember correctly, said if he was left in charge of the game he would have made the game spawn across all of Morrowind, including the mainland. And considering how in depth the cities were in Daggerfall, I'm confident he could have done it.
Just want to point out, that the dreaded cliff racers were actually bred by a Telvanni, as their predecessors were flightless and so of course a Telvanni said "I want them to rule the sky." I'm glad ESO is canon.
My only actual experience of traversing Morrowind is in ESO. So with mounts and wayshrines in the equation, it doesn't seem that bad. But geez morrowinds transportation sounds complicated, but maybe a bit fun if I had the spare time to actually play games like that like I used to.
I don't really have any opinion on the different factions.
The constantly shrinking ways of fighting as the series has progressed is unfortunate. No unarmed fighting skill tree in skyrim was disappointing, but at least you could still make it work with a little effort and it was one of my most fun playthroughs of skyrim. In eso, it's non-existant. You can unequip weapons and just punch things, but your punches do no damage and there's no associated skill line to actually give your unarmed attacks any benefits, similar to only using a single one handed weapon.
"Stormcloaks were better, suck it reds." Objectively untrue and shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the political climate of Tamriel at that time.

  10. House Dres wasn't destroyed by Skyrim, they randomly became super rich after abolishing slave trade and going legit despite being the slave trade house, Hlaalu became utterly outlawed and pretty much everyone belonging to it hunted down for betraying Morrowind to the Empire.

  11. I was able to clean, patch, paint and pack my entire apartment in boxes with this in the background. Thanks for the company and the crazy nostalgia trip. I can't imagine how long this must have taken. Thankyou very much.
