The Medium is a psychological horror video game developed by Bloober Team that was released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S on January 28, 2021. The Medium is a psychological horror game played in third-person as Marianne, a medium who can travel into the spirit realm. Being able to inhabit both worlds aids puzzle solving. Her psychic abilities may also be used against hostile forces and are recharged by interacting with energy spots called spirit wells. The Medium is developed by Bloober Team, who came up with the idea in 2012. Bloober meant to enhance the immersion by changing their traditional perspective from first- to third-person and taking advantage of Xbox Series X/S’s background streaming. In this video DreamcastGuy does a review of the game while showing gameplay and speaking in a review style format. They modelled the supernatural setting after Zdzisław Beksiński’s dystopian surrealist artwork. Lead designer Wojciech Piejko said The Medium imparts the message that “there is no universal truth”. Composers Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka were tasked with scoring the physical and spiritual plane, respectively. Using synthesiser and analogue sounds, Reikowski likened his approach to that of Stranger Things and Chernobyl. Yamaoka worked on the Silent Hill franchise, which inspired the game, including its fixed camera angles. He was persuaded to take on the music when Piejko gave him a gameplay demonstration. Singer Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, also of Silent Hill fame, will contribute vocals. Troy Baker voices the primary antagonist, known as the Maw, for whom another actor performed the motion capture on stilts.

  1. Not every game needs to have "action" to be good. Why is "lack of action" a negative thing!? It's not trying to be that. I view this as more of an immersive experience and that's probably not going to be for everybody.

  3. It’s made by an indie developer!!!… having only played Layers of fears 1 and Observer I wouldn’t have thought that they would make an exclusive one day for Xbox which to me felt like a big deal even though it’s only an indie dev, but layers of fear was spooky when it came out i liked what it did with the environmental jump scares instead of an entity, as for observer it surprisingly has great writing and it’s a well done walking simulator with an inspiration from (LOF) sprinkled throughout. I love how this game changed perspective to Third person and in the beginning stage you will see an Easter egg for observer by laying a book from that game on one of the tables of the opening stage

  4. I've been playing it on my series s through game pass and this game is great! Such creative concepts, the story is very interesting and makes you always want to know more and keep playing and the camera angles give it a very cinematic feel. I only think that the stealth is a bit clunky at times and the puzzles while creative and use the dual realities concept really well they are pretty simple…

  5. I’m about 5 hours in. The first hour was a little boring tbh. But after that it has me pretty much glued to my tv. Although for anything to make much sense u have to read the notes and collectibles u get along the way. Gameplay hasn’t gotten boring or repetitive and there are new gameplay mechanics being introduced that aren’t necessarily combat but where u have to defend/parry enemies. This is all my opinion from the 5 hours in so far and I’d give it a 8/10

  6. Was hyped for this game but damn does it suck! I'm seriously trying to stick it through for the story but navigation and gameplay is just horrible. 😔 I was really not expecting this whole fixed camera thing. Even graphically it's not that good! What the hell is going on with new games these days? 🤦🏾‍♂️

  7. I miss fixed cameras. I hate that impatient new gamers need everything to feel and play the same or they'll lose interest. I miss the days of ps1 and ps2 where there were AAA games of everything m every genre, B games of every genre, and sub genres left and right. Nothing felt like Resident Evil. Nothing felt like Final Fantasy. They were special quality. And even the b games are better than most AAA games today . The sleeper hit I've played this gen is Plagues Tale and Evil Within 2. I'll put Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle too as even as an Xcom fan, I didn't expect to have so much fun. Better than Xcom 2

  8. Yeah the lack of Combat was very predictable as the Devs Who made it (Bloober team) have only really made horror games that did not have combat with games like Layers of Fear 1 and 2, Blair Witch and Observer.) Their general Schtick is making more traditional no fighting/weapons horror games kinda haunted housy/puzzly/Jumpscarey more than fighty.

  9. Looking forward to games you are not impressed from. You oversee so many details in the last 2 years on your reviews. This is a game what Xbox wants and needs 3rs person adventure game. Why was your opinion different on PS games? I watched a few other reviews where you talk negative and did not see what other things developers have put in the Game.
