  1. I played it once right when it came out. I remember really liking the combat and the score. The story totally did not hit me.

If it didn't have Chrono in the title it probably would have been much better received.

  2. Both were prolific for their time. I love cross as I played it first. So hard to say which is better. I go back and forth. End of the day cross is my fav by just a small amount.

  3. I’ve played both and I gotta disagree with you and say that Chrono Trigger is better overall but Chrono Cross definitely has the better ost. As far as jrpgs of that era go, I hold Xenogears as the cream of the crop. But there were some absolute classics at that time: Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, Tales of Destiny, Lunar: Silver Star Story complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue complete, Star Ocean 2, Legend of Legia, Wild Arms, Final Fantasy 7 & 9 (and 4, 5, & 6 if you want to count the ports from the SNES), Breath of Fire 3 & 4. The ps1 was the system of choice for the jrpg connoisseur

  4. I love both games, like you I played them both when they originally came out, but honestly I think chrono trigger is a fair bit better. For one, chrono cross starts kinda slow (from what I can remember). 2, I don't particularly care for the larger but less well developed cast of cross vice trigger. Not that Chrono trigger does an amazing job of ally character development by modern game standards, but I find it still does a better job than cross did. And finally, the graphics of trigger are timeless, chrono cross looks like…well it looks like shit tbh, better than many of the other ps1 era RPGs, but compared to trigger…subjective, I know, but I find many of the ps1 era RPGS (primarily the 3d ones) hard to go back to personally (exceptions for suikoden 1&2, xenogears to some extent). To be honest though, It's been years since I've touched either game, so my recollection is definitely spotty.

Speaking of awesome game music though, Magus' theme is a banger, and the music from the undersea palace remains one of my favorite pieces of game music to date. Cross definitely had an amazing soundtrack from what I recall, arguably better than trigger even, just wanted to call out some of my favorite CT tracks.

  5. Guile was originally intended to be the alternate timeline version of Magus. It's who Janus grows up to be if things went slightly different, butterfly effect style. The subplot that directly addresses this was cut in the final game, but the assets were still used. Even the name guile is meant to reference the fact that It's another character "in disguise". Very clever stuff.

I wouldn't go as far as saying i like Cross better than Trigger, but i think Cross is just as good and I've defended it to a lot of people over the years.

  6. Ok dev…I'm not going to dis ur luv for Chrono Cross too badly here. It has a great storyline, great music with I believe 63 different characters (however this was NOT the first game to have this many characters, Suikoden was). However, as (how should I say this) unique as the combat system is it almost completely ruins it. The combat system is so different from Chrono Trigger is that to the untrained ear or eye, you would think that you would not know you were playing a true sequel to CT (when Chrono, Lucca, and Marle show up for there cameo). Do not get me wrong it's a good game, but to say it's better than GT one of if not the greatest JRPG's of all time….nah.

  9. I love the chrono games. Im more of a final fantasy fanboy tho. Theres an old ps1 game called legend of legaia that I played back when it first came out, i lost my copy and havent been able to find it since. But I remember that game was so fkn good. I wish they would upload it to steam.

  10. Luke warm take TBH. Chrono Cross IS a better game. I have only played through once (and tried to start a new game every few years) but goddamn that game blew me away when I first played it. At the VERY least it's in the same tier as FF7 and Xenogears.

  11. I respect your view on chrono cross, the music is solid and the story is pretty complex with solid beats, I just couldn't really get as deep into it. I found the combat hard to really process at the time, though I think with guide help I managed to get like 80-90% through the game but got stuck on a side quest because my light element characters were super under leveled and they were kinda necessary. Tried again a few years back but only got a few hours in. This all being said, glad to hear you gush about stuff you like dude.
