  1. My major issue with the game was that the map doesn't work the way it does in RE2R or RE3R where items don't appear on the map after you've "seen" or "ran passed them" really made it hard to find resources which I get is the point… but I've gotten so use to the Maps displaying items… loved the haptic feedback and sound design, no issues with gameplay like aiming… I thought the aiming was fine. I didn't like how little we saw of Demitrescu, and Donna Beneviento wasn't a boss… She's killed in a cutscene and we see more of Angie than we do of her… Sure we have the Baby as like a mini boss, but it was like Nemesis… Scripted… Moreau was so… lame… he was such a momma's boy and whined a lot… Which sucks because he was motion captured and voiced by Lucas Baker's actor from RE7… Like, Lucas is a badass and Moreau… Isn't… I really liked Heisenberg… Which makes sense because I really liked him as Nikolai in RE3R lol. I think it was false advertising that made (at least me) people think Chris was going to be a werewolf since he is fused with one on the cover art and posters… Loved, Ethan more in this than in RE7… Still fucking hate Mia… Fuck her… This is all her fucking fault… I don't think RE9 will have anything to do with Rose, since her adulthood is way into the future… RE9 will most likely be about Chris, or maybe another RE Main… I hate how they still completely obscure Ethan's face in this game… The photo album his home has photos of their wedding and his face is obscured… that visually and realistically makes no sense… wtf… and the final cutscene with him makes us a bit less sympathetic when we still don't know what he looks like… I mean we do… but it should've been in the game. Overall, I really love this game. Played it more than five times, I finished Forest of Shadow's difficulty in under 2 hours, and it was not easy lol… I can't wait to play more, and I look forward to the next entry.

  2. As a hardcore RE fan I view RE7 and 8 as side games. They focus on Ethan and not much of the bigger plot from previous games. Calling them Resident Evil Biohazard and Resident Village are more appropriate titles. They’re more like RE 6.5 and 6.8 to me. They don’t deserve a number IMO.

  3. I've played through this game about 6 times…less like re7 and more like re4 with some dashes of re7. Whats so re7 about it? Being in first person? The puzzles are garbage, the only one that required you to think was the winding key to simply match up scratches. The writing kinda sucks and the retcon to ethan being a molded and spencer being mirandas student was plain stupid and full of holes completely removing the point of the re5 dlc at spencers mansion. and the optomizing for pc is just pure shit.

Really you fight a boss using a tank thats not susceptible to the boss' powers and literally less than 5 minutes later the boss lifts the tank with his powers LOL ethan can survive without his heart and get back up but when he gets hit by a stick he dies and its game over.

Oh and that chris section? Yeah talk about doubling down on the not a hero dlc in 7 and forcing us to play it in the main story in 8.

Its like they aren't even trying and as a fan of re since the first game it feels like they let interns run the show.

  4. Is it just me or I’m I the only person to not like rumble at all? I think I like it in 5 or 6 games. I like it in Silent Hill with the heart beat like controller rumble. I haven’t used the PS5 controller yet but it feels like a gimmick that actively hinders your play. Me personally playing on a Series X I straight up shut off the rumble during the boss fight that features a potential lawsuit ensuing character design. Fun fact I remember way back in the day when the original house of the dead came out that people were saying that the game sucked solely because the guns didn’t have force feedback. That doesn’t matter, the OG house of the dead game is a great light gun shooter, regardless.

  5. My Theory: What Resident Evil Needs (Maybe like a Nine Layers of Hell policy)
    1. A Resident Evil game should have at most 2-3 bosses like Resident Evil 2 (They have to be memorable)
    2. The main character being alone for almost the entire game
    3. Should have 2 main characters with their own stories (similar to Leon and Claire's in Resident Evil 2)
    4. Can have a diverse class of mutants
    5. Few Side Characters
    6. Have a merchant system
    7. Every mutant and the supernatural-like thing has to have a biological/science backstory
    8. Create more files (information) across the games' settings for players to read (to understand lore's virus and background)
    9. Needs to be in a horrifying environment

  6. I love this game, but honestly yeah, the Donna section was such a drag. The baby part especially was more annoying if anything becides the puzzles. I would have rather had them made that section into a house that mechanically changes it self as you do puzzles and fight human sized dolls with Scythes and arm blades. I think that would be more interesting and replayable then what we got.

  7. Thought you would have spoken about that crazy story twist that you find in Miranda’s diary. That literally changed how I look at the OG trilogy of games.
    Great review though Kai.

I’ve just got the 2 Mercenaries trophies then I have the platinum trophy (PS5) 🤓

  8. So an 8 out of 10? I loved it, one of the best RE games in the series. 8.5 out of 10 for me, only because the scripted sections make it not as smooth to replay, and the inventory system wasn't as smooth as RE4. The castle section was okay as well, even on hardcore it was a breeze to get passed. People now days treat an 8 like a death sentence, it's a great game, but def not perfect or completely original.

  9. I have to disagree with the sentiment that if you felt one way about another Resident Evil, you'll like or dislike Village. I like all RE games, fixed camera/tank control RE, third-person shooter RE and now first-person RE, but RE4 and 7 are my favorite, and Village, while good, is probably my least favorite since four, not including the remakes (I thought they were fine, but didn't love them), and perhaps the Revelation games. I am on my fourth playthrough, but not sure I want to go through it again despite my goal to complete it under three hours. I feel like I've already gotten everything out of it that I could, I did near the end of my second playthrough but went through it a third just to beat village of shadows.

  10. I know I’m gonna get yelled at or whatever just my opinion I honestly got really bored of zombies yes I love a disgusting design for enemies but still after all this time I found zombies pretty boring I mean I started RE with 4 and it’s still my favorite and I didn’t really like molded either like zombies they just got boring to fight on replay over and over again so over all I think that village had very good enemies well mainly the Lycans but still I love this franchise have a good day😊

  11. You need to adjust the Aim Acceleration in the menu to fix the aiming issue. Also, Village isn't the first time we've had female villains in the RE franchise. Alex Wesker, Rachel Foley, Excella Gionne, Eveline, Marguerite Baker, Alexia Ashford, and Lisa Trevor to name a few. That's not including the CGI films either which would add a couple more to the list, so hardly "refreshing", I'd say it's pretty common.

  12. So many of these reviews and such always mention "if you didnt like 7, you probably won't like 8". I didn't really care for 7 at all, I cant force myself to even finish the game. But 8? I'm on playthrough 4. I'm just having fun.

  14. Finally saw this review and I don't know why you think Chris was shoved in,be literally shows up in 7 and played a big part in getting them to move and put under protection. Female villains for being such a diehard you forget badasses like Alex Wesker really easily. I'd like to see a re review of this because some of your points make sense until you started the spoiler section and feels more like you rushed the game and didn't understand it but that's just my two cents

  15. I'm going to be more in depth below, but personally, as a die hard fan of Resident Evil I was wanting more. There will be spoilers below, so just know it was alright in my opinion, could've been better.

To preface, I've completed the game on every difficulty, completed all challenges and have all the trophies. I did like what was there (for the most part) but it felt lacking overall to me.

I enjoy the upgrade system and cooking food for permanent character upgrades, that's great. I like the weapon variety, especially the bonus weapons, also 10/10 on that. Shockingly, Mercenaries mode grew on me once I really got to know it and treat it differently than how you'd play story. In my opinion it's a good change of pace and I'm glad it's a bonus mode and not the actual way the story works. I enjoy the story overall too, though certain aspects weren't as good as others. No need to touch on the visuals and sound, as stated in the video they're great and I ran into zero issues for performance (on PS5), which is great and welcomed.

Now for the "bad." The Chris section is garbage, it's like Mia's portion from RE7 and it's tone is noticeably different than the rest of the story and really wasn't for me. I felt like the Doll (Donna) and Fish (Moreau) were extremely lackluster, especially in comparison to Lady Dimitrescu and Heisenburg with their respective and fleshed out areas. Donna's area was fine but being that Moreau plays fairly similar (puzzle then boss) it just feels lazy compared to the castle of Dimitrescu and factory of Heisenburg. Also, not a fan of the Heisenburg boss. I'd have liked to see unique enemies to Donna and Moreau's areas, especially since RE4 and RE5 did a great job with enemies in different areas feeling unique to that area. As for the length, my first time playing on Hardcore was about 8 hours, give or take, and I did all the backtracking and searching for things (I missed 2 files and 2 Goat collectibles to give you idea of the thorough searching). I believe my fastest speedrun was an 1 and 41 minutes. I'd say the length is comparable to RE2 Remake. Also, good luck with the aiming, it's extremely sluggish feeling, which even on max sensitivity on console was still meh.

  16. "kind of a first for the series" – do we count morphus from dead aim though…?
jury's out on that – but the game was a lot of fun – id have loved for them to have multiple endings – but i think the game was a lot of fun as a whole! it just felt like all the areas after the castle were just… a lot shorter and less deeply planned out… like when i had just beaten the castle area and Duke explained about the other lords, i was going "hooooly shit – if each area is as full-on as this, I've still got a TON of game ahead of me!" i wish i'd been right :/

  17. This review is shocking, ignore this clown it’s really good game guys he had no clue about the game. He’s complaining about the ps5 controller but you can switch it off in the settings. The aiming is easy as there is an aim assist feature, I’ve never missed 10 shots in a row, doing it an injustice.

  18. I'm not even sure that headshots matter in this title…. as you can shoot an enemy in the foot 4-5 times, the arm 4-5 times, or the head 4-5 times… with your pistol…. and I say 4-5 due to the amount your weapon may or may not be upgraded… but regardless, in 4-5 shots to any appendage or body mass in general, the enemy will die just the same. And as far as sound goes…. it's good, yeah. But something's wrong with non surround setups. With headphones, a 5.1 or 7.1 system, its fine… great even. But with a standard 2ch stereo system, even an amazing one, it's not good at all. The game tries to place sounds behind you via the act of nearly muting them, if not actually muting them. They just go away. . . No way to fix it, no sound setting to take care of this. Then there's the issue (on PC) that no one else seems to be having, but has me quitting the game and re-launching it over and over and over and over and over per play session. And with a game that doesn't allow you to save wherever you want, as RE's don't, this is extraordinarily inconvenient. As what happens is the game is running fine just fine at max settings, 1440p or 4K, 60fps with vsync on, gpu @ 70-80%, maybe pegging here and there (2070), with gpu memory being managed fine just fine… then you enter a room, often the same room that causes the issue time and time again, and that frame rate tanks to 11- 18 or so fps. Then you have to hobble back to a typewriter, praying to not get into a slow-motion / slideshow combat scenario, then save and exit the game…. then go back in, load the game, and be in the exact same place but now the frame rate is fine, gpu usage is back from 100 – the normal 70 or so, cpu all the while is hardly hitting 20% at any point (i7 4930K 6c/12t @ 4.6 all core)…. and the key thing I see is that GPU memory, when this issue hits, is maxed…. in my case all 8GB used… I have to imagine it's a gpu memory leak. But regardless, it's horrible, and consistent if not at times constant. And there's nothing wrong with the system, as it can play any other game just fine at similar standards of quality, as well as other REngine games at similar or better standards of quality. It's most definitely the game, and I just find it odd that I can't seem to conjure up even one google search instance of someone else having this happen, when it happens to me a dozen times or more per play session. It surely could be that it has something specific to do with my rig… PCIe version along with memory type, speed, latency, cas, etc… along with other items that can factor in for sure, but it's a big damn world out there, and I am so far to believe that I am the only person with whatever unicorn combination that is required for this to happen, who is playing RE8?! Seems unlikely, but then again also exactly my luck. Anyway, enjoy my giant paragraph of RE8 related ramblings. I like it, not sure it's what RE should be but still having fun with it regardless… it makes me hope that the RE classics keep getting remade alongside this new series, even though they're hobbled as well…. And this one has some sorta issue that is affecting me super duper annoyingly hard, and I wish someone else would notice it.

  19. It's a solid game. I liked it, but i feel like something was missing. Maybe it's the fact that i didn't enjoy the enemies that much. (Even though i loved Heisenberg)

  20. I just finished the game yesterday and I think it was great. Refreshing and I kinda like it more than RE7. I definitely liked Ethan more in this, because he felt more like an actual character. I still don’t know how to feel about the twist at the end but I kinda feel your sentiments on Mother Miranda. I just didn’t care for her. Chris was alright I expected more of him but apparently not.

And oh yeah, House Beneviento scared the shit out of me.

  21. Last acting role of Jeanette Maus who sadly passed away after an eight-month battle with colon cancer, a few months before the release of the game

The Dimitrescu name was chosen because it is similar to Dracula, which comes from the Romanian word "dracul", meaning "dragon". Lady Dimitrescu's final form purposely resembles a dragon.

If the players never or rarely visit the Duke's store during their playthrough, he will make angry comments about it when they pass by him.

One of the bonus weapons that can be unlocked in the Mercenaries mode is a lighstaber.
Lady Alcina Dimitrescu's face is based on a Polish actress named Helena Mankowska.
