Mortal Kombat 2021 is finally here, so here’s my review. Hunted by the fearsome warrior Sub-Zero, MMA fighter Cole Young finds sanctuary at the temple of Lord Raiden. Training with experienced fighters Liu Kang, Kung Lao and the rogue mercenary Kano, Cole prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions to take on the enemies from Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe. This was released in theaters and on HBO Max, where I watched it.

  1. It was an enjoyable movie. I would never had went to the movies for this. My home theater was more than enough. A 7-10 part series would have worked too.

  2. I get why they made cole, which was to be a nobody who knows nothing about the whole MK stuff and we're supposed to be see it all and learn it all with him, but if they didn't use johnny but they legit could've used Stryker for it and would've probably done alot better to build a story on, Strykers whole thing was just a random cop who eneded up involved in the whole tournament out of nowhere

  3. Scorpion talking purely in Japanese all the way then suddenly shouting “Get over here!” was a bit cringe-y, but forgivable, just because hearing the catchphrase is awesome.

  4. see, I've only got an extremely vague understanding on Mortal Kombat. I've really only watched the original two movies, and seen bits and pieces of the games. However, I thought the movie was absolutely fantastic. The fights were great, the fatalities were cool, and Kano was one of the absolute best characters ever!

  5. Agree with most of your thoughts but heavily disagree about people aren't here for a Mortal Kombat movie for the story…the games have built up a huge fanbase with the lore, mythology and story. The games actually have become the goldstandard for fighting games with their storymode/single player content. Just because the gameplay is dumb fun doesn't mean every aspect needs to be or for a half-assed attempt on the assumption nobody cares.

If it wasn't for the story & characters built up over decades to compliment the fun gameplay the franchise wouldn't have survived the 90s to stay around for decades now.

  7. The problem for me was this movie felt like an adult Avengers film. It followed the same formula down to the humor. The characters just happened to be from a different franchise. Can’t say I enjoyed it. But I didn’t hate it.

  8. Johnny Cage wasnt in the Movie, because the Director "Didnt feel happy having a White Male Lead" in the movie if i recall from the internet rage a few weeks ago
