  1. You could make the argument that using necromancy provides an incentive for a society to kill and go to war, because if their society is based upon death, then they will profit the more death there is. This is why the Sload attempted to kill off so much of Tamriel.

  2. if you look at IRL mythology necromancy's largely tabooed by monotheistic religions, as what they saw as necromancy was the shamanistic religions (for example old norse religion) where contact with the dead ancestors is a part of the rites and such.

And why it is tabooed is mainly thought to be that the monotheistic religions believes (at least at the time it evangelized parts of the world around 1000 years ago) that the soul cannot enter the afterlife were the body to be harmed or maimed post mortem. So to them dealing with the dead = tampering with the soul slash viewed as hindering it from entering the afterlife and with time it's bred the general idea of "all dead are evil" yknow?

  3. Do alternate theory video on if Almalexia didn't kill Sotha Sil. 😊 Lets say you show up and as soon as you enter his room Almalexia attacks you and Sotha Sil. You both defeat her. Would he have successfully created a mechanical heart and new tools? If so would he have shared with Vivec? Would he have made himself into a completely mechanical being instead?

  4. If a nord dies and goes to sovngarde and then the body is reanimated does it do anything to the soul or does the nord in sovngarde not even know what is happening to his body?

  5. I miss how in Morrowind soul gems had the name of the NPC you soul trapped in them. There was something very satisfying about keeping Almalexia's soul on your shelf, or turning Vivec's Soul into a sword.

  6. I agree with Michael that it would be inherently evil think of what the grey beards say about the dragon rend shout, what would they say about the soul rend shout? You would be taking that magic and energy into your own soul

  7. Just the fact that a captured soul will eventually will be claimed by the Ideal Master and be stuck in the Soul Cairn for eternity, makes it a dark evil art. These souls won't move on to their chosen plane of Aetherius, being in perpetual torment. So, there's no question that it's evil. The cultural identity augment, is just an excuse to justify those actions.

  8. It's so weird to have a whole game series that is pretty much a clone of a table top rpg, with all these concepts of resurrection and souls and then do NOTHING to supplement those ideas. That's what infuriates me about the ES, they NEED to flush out these esoteric concepts so we can have clear and decided lines between schools of magic and divinity, etc.
It needs details, not necessarily complexity.

  9. Fudgemuppet could in fact achieve a triumpherance of perfection. Keep Camel on fulltime and rid themselves of that "not-so-fresh-feeling"…that is to say…their red problem down-under.

  11. Draugr and ancestors of the dark elves are probably the only totally ethical types of necromancy. Both become undead to protect something inherintly making it different to litchdom but also similar. They both offer immortality but in different ways as litches have the free will to go anywhere and do anything they like. I say draugr as well cause I'm pretty sure it's consensual, though feel free to prove me wrong. An example of how else it could be ethical though is if say a mage and a warrior go to fight an evil or do something anything really and the mage has knowledge of necromancy then the warrior might ask the mage that if he does in the pursuit of their goal then the mage could use his body to complete it, or even his soul. Not to have around forever or use for anything other than the completion of their goal. Even near the end of the college of winterhold questline there is an example of almost ethical necromancy, when David used his two friends to trap the dragon priest. Though something tells me he didn't get their permition to do so. In short a soul should really only be disturbed with permission from said soul and real limitations for what you can use it for. Only examples I can think of is protecting a place important to them the completion of something greater then themselves or to be asked upon in times of great need. There are probably others but those are all I can think of. Sorry for the ramble.

  12. Real necromancy is simply communicating with the dead. You can't actually bring a dead body to life. Even Jesus didn't actually rise from the dead, he became a spirit that could manifest before others.
I doubt that life could return to a body once the silver cord attaching the soul to the body has been severed.
