  3. Bricky said that the Necrons couldn't kill their gods but in truth, they could. However, when they killed their first god, Llandu'gor the Flayer, they got cursed with His endless hunger. That's where the necron flayed ones come from. These guys are uncontrollable and they revel in senseless slaughter, taking trophies from their foes in the form of flayed skin, bones, and sinew, which they often wear or "eat". Since necrons are machines, it would be inacurate to say that the flayed ones are crazy; rather, they behave more as if they got infected with a computer virus that makes them go haywire.

    In any case, the flayer's curse is why the necrons decided that instead of killing their gods it would propably be a better idea to just fragment them instead.

  4. You want one of the most important moments in the 40K Universe? How about when The Emperor opens the pathway to the Warp? That single moment is momentous for Humanity, the forces of Chaos, and the Tyranids. (Arguably less so, but still impacting Orks and Eldar).

  5. One thing that I don't understand about Warhammer. Search for any summary video and you'll find "Brief introduction to Blank" 2 hour video.
    Every Warhammer lore video is like that. LOL

  6. There was the enslavers that also appeared near the end of the war, which is believed to be also a reason the Old One’s are now extinct. Enslavers are a form of parasitic daemons that with their powerful psychic abilities enslave everyone in proximity, a group of enslavers and mind control a world, possibly a system. Then they lay eggs into the mind controlled being so more enslavers and be bred killing the host.

  7. I think the best way to describe the C'tan is that you can't describe them. I know it sounds weird but imagine an alien that exists in multiple dimensions, you can't describe them because your brain is not capable to comprehend this being.

  8. This whole thing about Biotransference got me wondering about the Destroyers and the various forms they take, because some have 3 legs, some of them are like floating centaurs. Turns out they're just so into killing shit that they remove their arms and replace them with guns, and remove their legs and replace them with grav-platforms in the Necron equivalent of self-mutilation.

  9. I think that I may have an explanation for the ancient Egyptian aesthetic on the Necrons. It’s no small secret that the 40k setting was initially created as an adaptation of the races and setting of Warhammer Fantasy, hence why Squats were a thing, and why Eldar are just space elves, and the Greenskins are basically the same culturally. I’d surmise that, besides being a terminator pastiche, the Necrons were meant to be a thematic up-res of the fantasy undead factions, specifically the tomb kings faction and the general connections the various undead groups have to Lamia and Nehekara, which was basically the Egypt of the fantasy setting.

  10. To expand on the point of consciousness/free will in the Necron caste system:

    >Silent King: literal perfection, fully conscious and above all else.
    >Nobles and Crypteks: Fully self-aware and able to act on their own accord, yet still forced to serve whoever is above them in the hierarchy, though they don't have to like it and as such are capable of betrayal and politicking. Varying levels of insane.
    >Royal Wardens/Lychguard/Praetorians: Have personalities. Able to make individual judgment calls and do their duty as they see fit. Can give advice, although fully enslaved to whoever they serve and can not rebel.
    >Immortals/Deathmarks: used to be soldiers and as such are capable of, say, leading a squad of other similar troops and warriors.
    >Warriors: used to be literally all other Necrontyr. Non-soldier men, women, and children. Completely devoid of personality and free will.
    >Canoptek: the bug-like robot slaves built by the Necrons post-Necrontification. Literally just robots who follow their programming. Adorable though.

    Destroyers/Flayed Ones: insane or cursed, single-minded in their purposes of destroying/wearing all organic life. There are somewhat conscious Destroyer Lords but they usually just command the other Destroyers and are just as insane.

  11. Wild idea. The old ones fled the galaxy, then created tyranids as the ultimate warriors to reclaim it. It fits the old ones rasing up races to be more powerful and I heard they used the eldar and krorks as weapons against the necrons.
