Theres like some 2 year old post on Reddit with graphs and trends on meta champs along with skin releases and sales "proving" that riot dosen't have favorites they buff because of popularity.
But graphs or not we all know Riot clearly has their favorites like Yone who is consistently been keept in the meta. Why would they ever forget about him when he has skins and cinematics invested over someone like Yorick who no one plays, hes not selling KDA skins to simps.
Remember when Udyr got buffed slowly overtime then suddenly he was meta? It's like they pressed a button to nerf him into the ground just after 1-2 weeks. Meanwhile champs like Kayne exist flashy, mobile and popular who do get nerfed when it's clear they are over tuned but never nerfed enough to be out of the meta they'll be a solid pick minium. Thats the sad truth.
