  1. Back in the day demos helped me to decide "like you said" and single players being dead is plain BS! I dont like multiplayers at all, what i want is to go in game and explore for myself, watch out for myself and build my caracter up alone "when thats available"

  2. Exactly as you say. And to make matters worst, devs stopped finishing games and started relying on day 1 patches. To the point where day 1 buyers are beta testers. It's a horrible system, but hopefully OutRiders has a solid release and starts a new trend

  3. Publishers or anyone that thinks demos aren't profitable they only got 1 brain sell, yes a demo is free to download, you're not making any money from that but you're potentially selling the game by assuring players what the game has to offer and the devs are so passionate about the game they're even updating and patching the demo as if it's the full game which that alone speaks volumes, demos are the best way to sell a game period!

  4. I would have definitely bought the game if it wasn't for the demo. Trailers and gameplay videos don't show how the game really feels. for me it was sluggish and i also disliked the matchmaking system.

  5. I want Outriders to succeed so much. I can’t stand drip feed content and this game is actually giving you content upfront. I preordered and want this to be amazing.

  6. Game devs being honest and transparent about their game while updating even their fucking demo is unheard of, holy shit crazy thought

    However,

This games loading screens could have the potential of killing the game though, we are in 2021 and are really getting ps1/ps2 loading screens? Ya no

  7. Demos is a good idea despite what that article says if it's a good game. I enjoyed the demo and will be buying the the game when it drops. I mean they patched the demo ahead of the game dropping to me that says they're listening to us.

  8. Demos used to determine some sales projections and as a consumer if you like the demo it was a guarantee sale, I feel publishers ended influencing all that back for them to sell you on live service and all of that with the perfect example as single players not selling which it is BS, if the game is average good it'll make money and do hope to see more developers take this PCF approach

  9. Although I pre-ordered it on PS5 a little fast, I was still convinced the game was fun. After it was announced on Game Pass I tried to cancel my PS5 pre-order but Sony didn't allow me to saying it was too late. Weird. Anyway, after time and playing 30+ hours in the demo, I decide to pre-order anyway on XSX due to the devs transparency and communication. So rare these days. I think Outriders has much more potential than we actually see.

  10. The rebirth of the Demo. Love it. More games should do this and use this to make games better, avoid launch disasters and build real hype. As always homie, keep the great vids and coverage coming!

  11. I had never heard about this research claiming demos are bad, lol. Must have been funded by EA! On a serious note, I'm glad Outriders did it and hope to see it be a continued trend in the future.

  12. a demo is a big risk for people that don't know what they're doing but for people that know that they have a good quality game this is the best option I love when people come together and they create a piece of art just like this that's why we spend money on games because we want to see it just like we see it on outriders

  13. Demos CAN be bad but obviously only for the developer. If Outriders wasn't a blast to play it would of gotten shit on but the developer felt confident enough to release a demo knowing the gameplay was on point. Releasing a demo is a win win for the consumer unless it's something like Anthem where nothing was ever fixed in the demo or even after launch. People Can Fly did everything right with this demo and developers should take note

  14. You can't really tell how a game really feels from youtube content alone. I was very skeptical of this game and didn't like how it looked at first glance from what I saw on youtube but my brother convinced me to try the demo….and wow. I was hooked ever since. After playing the demo I have pre ordered and have been on the hype train ever since.

  15. PCF did an amazing job during the demo though, they actually used it as a beta test. They listened to all the community feedback, and even made patches to the demo. They kept an open line of communication to the player base and were quick to respond to question or in game issues. This isn’t something you see in the industry anymore. They are truly trying to release the best game possible for the community BEFORE it launches not after. It’s rare and I appreciate the hard work they doing for us. Oh did I mention it’s not a live service, no micro transactions… found me a unicorn.

  17. This gonna be easy popular for twitch as well because it's easy to understand mechanic and also unlimited customization with skills that offers so much eye candy. I have a feeling this game gonna be big too.

  18. I think the reason they say that demos are a bad idea is because if it’s a shitty game, people will see that in the demo and it will lower preorders. For instance, look at anthem. The demo was hot garbage, and so was the main game when it released. However, if you can make a good game, and release a good demo to go with it, then it can be a great way to bolster preorders and community opinion on a game.

  19. the game was lame. gunshots had no umph. story/dialog was bland. interaction with npc is dry as fuck. reminds me of anthem. destiny already did alot of what this game is trying to do and it did it better. the mob AI is dumb, they dont cover n shoot when getting lit up. the visuals and camera are terrible if u consider we are in 2021. anthem, div 2 and destiny looks way better than this game. this game just doesnt click for me and i still dont see what it is everyone likes about it other than its new. i feel like its all hype.

  20. You started off great with your logic that correlation isn't always cause.
But then you went on to a hasty generalisation using one successful example to be representative of all.

  21. Obviously whoever made that article about Demos not being profitable obviously don’t know shit. You gotta give people a slice of the game that way they know if they want to Get it or not. So many times I have bought a game thinking it would be great but it turned out to be absolute rubbish. Having a demo the consumer will know what we are getting. If you ask me all games should have a demo option that way we can try before we buy. We can take a car for a test drive before we buy it why can’t we do it with a video game

  22. This video seems to go out of its way to prove exactly the opposite of what the title suggests. That article referenced did not say demos weren’t profitable or useful it suggested they were not the most effective way to market your game. That article was based solely on a perspective of sales, not consumers being satisfied with their purchase.

So in that regard it is true that demos are not the most effective marketing tool. Look at cyberpunk, if they had a demo of that game prior to release that was an actual representation of the game as it was they would have no doubt lost early sales. They did however have great marketing trailers and we can see the clear results of a half baked game selling 13 million units in a few days thanks to that.

So yeah, the argument was never demos are not useful just not the most useful and I agree. Now I’m a gamer I obviously want the demo but from a publisher standpoint trailers allow you better control over the message. I still remember seeing the trailer for Jeepers Creepers and thinking that was going to be a great movie.

  23. By the way demos ARE profitable. By releasing the demo they are skipping over having to send review copies to leftist media companies like Gamespot, IGN etc. So basically instead of having some San Fran hipster give a bad review on a game no one can get their hands on they gave the people the game to decide whether it's good or not instead of leaving it up to the opinion of those hipster reviewers. They made a smart move, because why put the success of ur game into the hands or these people?

  24. Publishers full of talking heads and jargon slingers. They're bullshit on many levels. let more learn from observing the success of others and change their ways accordingly

  25. Outriders is definitely a good case study for how demos actually benefits games. I've heard of Outriders before last year, but seeing as it was yet another looter shooter it didn't interest me that much, and looking at a lot of people it's clear that was the general sentiment. It's only when the demo came out and I started playing it out of curiosity that I realized I liked this game, enough for me to buy it, and again that seems to be the sentiment going in for a lot of people.

The study does make a point that demos are good at creating word-of-mouth, but the study made it sound as though word-of-mouth only was undesirable. It really failed to foresee that word-of-mouth will become a significant force in the future of online marketing due to the rise of social media.

Also, demos have always been around, it's just that the major western AAA devs have abandoned it. However, many other studios still offer demos, for example Capcom and their demos for the Remakes of RE2 and RE3, and recently the Monster Hunter Rise demos, all of which have been bestsellers.
