A week after buying it, Outriders is one of the very worst “live service” experiences I’ve ever played.

The servers are so busted, the software so prone to crashing, and the gameplay so unworthy of the investment that I’m absolutely disgusted.

While I understand not everybody has had my experience, I can only share mine, and I am legitimately angry that something has wasted my time and money so thoroughly.

Outriders is the epitome of my problem with these half-baked, rushed, Early “AAA”ccess products.

  1. This is not an excuse you can accept from the likes of SQEnix or any other multi billion dollar triple A publisher for that matter. They fucked up just like CDPR did and the media absolutely pounded them for that so why are SQEnix not being given the same level of pounding from the same media? Isn't it obvious by now?

  2. I was looking forward to Outriders, honestly. The dialogue was terrible, and the demo was definitely, ahem, a bit rough around the edges, but it looked like an interesting sort of Eurojank Mass Effect looter shooter with some good teamwork stuff. I haven't seen one review so far that isn't about what a broken buggy mess it still is. It's not like Squenix didn't have the money to hire enough staff, or were in danger of going bankrupt if they didn't release it right now instead of paying for a few more months of quality control. It's just all so disappointing.

  3. I really don't get the pre-order or the day-1 purchase mindset. At this point it should be common knowledge that you simply can't trust reviews other than post-release honest non-paid reviews. And until you can get your hands on those, what is there to be excited about? I wouldn't wait in line and pre-pay for a meal at a restaurant that isn't opened yet. I'll wait to hear what it's actually like when it's open from people who've eaten there, and then let that help me form an opinion about whether it's worth my time and money.

  4. I don't know I've had a completely different experience with the game and if I had the same experiences as used Jim I'd be super pissy too but I can't help it but love this game and feel like you're being a bit excessive even though I am exactly those people who you called out in the beginning of the video and I love all your content I'm not going to stop watching this is the first time I was like "noooooooo not something I like" lol

  5. Also I feel like server issues don't make a game broken at least when I think of a broken game I think of cyberpunk something that is fundamentally in its core broken not good cuz when you play outriders I don't see the same type of glitches I feel when I play cyberpunk I understand that when you have an online only game and you have server issues that's a big deal but this is a game that did not need to be online 24/7 and I think if it wasn't we see a very different story but again the game's not broken there's huge server issues but it's not like when I shoot my gun it doesn't hit enemies the powers don't do what they're supposed to do or the game can't run itself then again I'm not here trying to defend square enix their massive I'm more on people can fly side.

  6. I usually love Sterling's reviews. This is understandable frustration, I'm shocked they couldn't get on. I had issues myself, a LOT of issues, but I still got a ton of time in on day 1, and more since.

I agree that SE has the money to do better than this, though. I am 100% on board with this critique, though I hope they'll actually play and review it. I think it's got some solid positives despite some glaring negatives.

  8. I've been playing since day one on the PC and I can say my experience has been totally different compared to yours. I have experienced a total of 1 crash and 3 disconnects. no apparent bug and it has been stable for about a week now. the game has been very fun, the environments are beautiful, the writing, dialogues and story have surprisingly good moments with a very deliberate b-movie flavor. in terms of gameplay or progression I don't think there's anything new per say, but everything feels like it's accumulated the experience of every looter shooter released before to make a very pleasantly polished product. like the loot is quite generous and the crafting system gives you just enough leeway to counteract the randomness of the pieces you get and actually build the character that you want in my opinion. Also I realised while playing in coop that I wasn't waiting forever for my mates to finish analysing their loot and building their skills which is a problem I usually have with games like this with RPG elements. but here the experience is very seemless so I have to give props.

  9. I've not once had issues like this, but the crashes are rather inconvenient. Please tell us how you feel about the game play if you ever do get around to it? I value your opinions, you terrible human being.

  11. Spent the overwhelming majority of the review ranting about corporations and micro-transactions. Make your point Jim and move on. He barely referenced anything about story / gameplay / class mechanics. I finished the entire game without too many issues honestly (past the first few days) i have no clue why it was such a disaster for him.

  12. Jim, I love Outriders as a game and you're not being unfair. You can love a game and still hate what it is instead of what it should have been. I have been playing on PC and I can't even begin to describe how many bugs I've had to deal with beyond just connectivity issues. After every single mission in the game my direction helper goes haywire and tries to send me back to the last quest I just completed, I am unable to interact with any of the doors to move to another screen and all my quest NPCs completely disappear. I have to log out and log back in after every. Single. Fucking. Quest. It is beyond infuriating. Beyond that I've had the game crash countless times for no reason, even after switching to DX11. I've had mobs fall through the world and I'm unable to continue because you have to kill every single mob before you can move to the next waypoint. I've had guns bug, I've had friends who had their entire inventory wiped out for joining my game and to top it all off the difficulty of the game is completely fucking out of whack in single player.

I had high hopes for Outriders, but it's unfortunately turned into Anthem 2.0. I'm just done with looter-shooters at this point. They are worse than gacha games IMHO.

  13. So the connection issues are universal but i've never seen the bugs they ran into, coupled with that time they found an extremely rare game breaking bug in hellblade, i'm starting to think jim is the unlukiest person in the gaming world.

  14. So, weird. I have been playing a ton of this game and never experienced any of the bugs or connection issues. The only bug was the UI bug but its gone now and didn't bother me much to restart from the lobby.

  15. I wish people would criticize these multi-national corporations without resorting to wanting to overthrow the government and forcing each other to refer to everyone as "comrade". That bull shit is an even worse idea than what we currently have. What we need is smart and fair regulation and the actual enforcement of said regulations without wormy loopholes and underhanded nepotism that allows corporations to get out of paying taxes and allowing them to park their money in foreign countries.

  16. You know what I do? Avoid "AAA" games that release launch day.
Almost guaranteed to be buggy. There not getting my money until they actually patch it for real.

  17. I saw some people on my Steam friends list play this so i looked at some trailer and gameplay thing with devs…..
And i didn't get how they barely had any dislikes, it looks soooo fucking generic with NOTHING new and when i heard more of *how*it is i just don't get the positive reception i first saw…
