An In-Depth Look at the Launch/Server Issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoIqLrdL134
With Outriders now becoming “playable” for most people… I am finally able to produce a full review. To summarize, the game has excellent loot, and atrocious balancing. Build diversity is non-existent… secondary mechanics are mediocre at best, but the bare bones for one of the BEST loot systems I have yet seen in a game are there at its core.
Overall, I game I am having fun with, but a game that is marred by always online directives, kernel level anti-cheat, launch week server issues, and some of the worst fundamental skill balancing I have ever seen.

Wait, you opened a task manager to quit when servers were down? Did everyone forget about ALT+F4, lol?
Ja. I'm playing pyro at LVL 16 tier 6 with Volcano Rounds and mods that boost anomaly power when active. A pull power with mods that replenish ammo and health based on number of enemies affected and a mod that increases that amount and a single target power that causes an enemy to explode and do massive area damage and I'm walking through the game like a god. I can already see that any other build layout will be for RP. Its still fun but it is getting stale
Don’t you dare touch my volcanicrutch rounds kek.
I do agree. All the kits need reworking. However, only in bringing them up to par, not dragging what is good, down. I hope they don’t pull a bungie lmao.
However, on the premise of the healing mechanic in the game…..the top tree damage build makes sense….lol
Would be nice if Outriders didn't see the updater for my motherboard as cheat software.
Guess you never played Borderlands 2 and the Salvador meta.
I’m sorry but I think your critique on build balance are very inaccurate and extremely surface level.
First of all, I don’t think many people can comment on the state of balance when very few people actually have full class sets, correct legendaries etc – you yourself do not have a full class tier set.
As a Devastator main, I peruse the Outriders discord a lot and love to chat about builds. I am seeing PLENTY of Devastator builds able to solo CT15, hitting 1.5mil overall damage and up. This is from an Anomaly Power build. From what I’ve seen, there’s a pretty solid CT15 composition that is literally 3 Devastators. I am competing with my friends on their other classes just fine myself.
Should also note – a Destiny streamer just solo’d CT15 Eye of the Storm as a Pyromancer using a full Anomaly Power build too. No volcanic rounds.
These comments that build variety is ‘very limited’ are perhaps a little premature, given the game has been out for less than a week and new builds are being crafted every day.
Ah, I see timers show up in another game to ruin the nature of "challenging" content. Defensive builds or crowd control tactics? Nah fam, let’s make sure the Mythic+ timer sets AoE DPS and weird skip routes as the only way to go.
Guess we'll never have a looter shooter where the endgame don't rely only on DPS…
Remnant > Outriders.
Wish Remnant got the same hype as this game. Such a solid game made by such a hardworking team. Outriders seems shallow af to me.
I dont think this game should last for hundreds or thousands of hours. It has a clear end and was never a live service.
I'm having a blast with the game. It's annoying the servers were buggy but that allowed me to get some Uni work done in the interim.
It reminds me more of Remnant: From The Ashes than it does The Division (which I probably have 1000 hours across D1 and D2).
The thing I love the most? The fact that right out the gate I felt like a powerful badass with relevant gear drops early, instead of waiting for me to grind to level 30 for me to experience it.
Only at level 25 so still in the rose tinted glass phase, most likely. Great video, thanks 👍
Just you wait for SkillUp to shill up the fuck out of this, lol. This game COULD have been really great but they fucked up on so many levels.
atrocious audio. stopped watching five minutes in.
yeh that server problem is worthy of being laughed out loud
whoa. what's up with the mic.
My main problem with this game is the audio. Oh my GOD. THE AUDIO.
I've been playing pyromancer and their melee, some abilities, and some of the guns r-pe my ear drums. And for some reason, the audio setting for sound effects doesn't lower in-game sound effects but rather it lowers menu sounds. So I have to lower the master volume where voices and music are practically inaudible in comparison.
"If you've found something else please tell me"
Tools of destruction's minigun is bugged in a good way right now. The armor mod that increases your anomaly power with each minigun kill only goes away when you switch your minigun for something else/end the skill, despite the description saying that the increase only lasts for 10 seconds. The minigun also inherits perks from your equipped weapon when cast, so if you have a gun with perpetuum mobile (fills magazine if you get a kill with less than 30% ammo remaining in magazine) the minigun gets it as well. Meaning the minigun now has infinite ammo and thus infinitely scaling damage, if you have the patience for it. I managed to get it up to 15k damage per bullet one time. While it takes a bit to ramp up the damage it excels mowing down the various animal mobs.
Technomancers DPS ceiling is orders of maginutde higher than the other classes' right now.
The online only thing is pretty dumb. If people aren't using online services then having them login wastes server resources and contributes to the crashes, as well as wasting energy processing logins.
There were far more people shitting on the Outriders devs on Twitter for those tweets than praising them. They also did give ETAs in some of their tweets. I think it's refreshing to actually be told something is being done rather than next to nothing via tweets, which is what a lot of devs do. And I don't think people being happy to see that and recognizing it is "sucking dicks."
Oh god this seems so generic and boring from the get-go.
Are the builds you mention the Meta? Yes. Are they the only ones?
No, not at all.
I've seen Techno minigun builds, devastator tremors builds and trickster shotty one-shot builds from streamers and friends that can do solo Tier 15 expeditions without breaking a sweat. I run a tremors build on my Devastator which almost never requires me to shoot at all.
They can't compete directly with the shot builds, as they appear to be maybe 30% more effective than the others, but they're not useless. Does the game need to rebalance the shot builds? Absolutely.
My techno runs a rifle shot build with AOE focus. It's still a shot build due to the damage it creates, but it's a variation. And here's the rub. Though the main aspects of the build are the same, the specifics are not. I've seen 5 different shot builds based on 5 different weapons for techno in the last week. They all use the same mechanics, but use everything from snipers to double barrel shotguns and use a plethora of different perks. In division 1/2 people would call them different builds, yet for Outriders it's not, because we use the shots as a basis. I don't get that. Those differences are what I would call build diversity.
The bigger issues for me is the always online design, kernel level anticheat for a PvE game and the problems the different UI design choices make (no exit button, having to "exit" to change characters without any sort of explanation, weird setup in the inventory etc.). Not to mention the horrible stuttering and instability in DX12. Having full on lock-ups and hard-reboots due to the server problems and the client not handling it is not good at all. Having your PC seize up due to a DX error is bloody horrible. It isn't Fallout 76 level horrible, but it's not far off…
Wait, another kernel lv anticheat? For pve game? Fine I'm out.
Am loving Outriders. It is basic, does what it says on the tin. Reminds me of Defiance, alot. It is a no brain grindy game but that is all it is. It is not very deep. For an online server based game as most games are now, the server instability is not a good sign. But remember GTAV had the same problems and the Online became legendary.
its basicly warhammer chaosbane but 3rd person and looter shooter. but its the same corridor grind shit.
literally knit picking the hell out of everything, relax dude. it's a video game. turn your volume down. games have aren't perfect.
I'm hoping legendary sets help out ability builds but some of them are statted really stupidly so I doubt it. If they buff up abilities it would be a pretty awesome game.
I'm not interested but I will look at a review!
What's the issue with your mic?
Yes, the Whatever Rounds skills are broken. BUT … Devastators can solo farm Tier 15 Expeditions (Gold chests too) with a couple of builds, one of which is Anomaly based. I think it's less of a Devastator issue, but rather more like the skills themselves are so overpowered that literally nothing else compares for those classes, thus zero build variety for Techno/Pyro/Trickster. And what makes them broken is the fact that you can literally have them on permanently, due to the various reload mods.
I wonder what the big picture is, with the always online & the kernel level anti cheat. What haven’t they told us?
i enjoy the game i would rate it 8/10 i have more fun with this than borderlands 3 or destiny 2
