Outriders – Worth Buying?

Bear in mind this is my first impressions after a couple hours of playing the game from the demo. There could be a much better game and a month of polish making a lot of these points either irrelevant or lesser. I’d say wait for people to finish the game if you’re not down to blow 60 dollars on a gamble, the gameplay loop we’ve seen done poorly before(Avengers, Godfall in recent memory) and this could wind up the same.

OUTRIDERS is a 1-3 player co-op RPG shooter set in an original, dark and desperate sci-fi universe.

As mankind bleeds out in the trenches of Enoch, you’ll create your own Outrider and embark on a journey across the hostile planet.

With rich storytelling spanning a diverse world, you’ll leave behind the slums and shanty towns of the First City and traverse forests, mountains and desert in the pursuit of a mysterious signal.

Combining intense gunplay with violent powers and an arsenal of increasingly twisted weaponry and gear-sets, OUTRIDERS offers countless hours of gameplay from one of the finest shooter developers in the industry – People Can Fly.

  1. Is it just me or how the hell was he getting all this content? Apart from prologue I was only able to play more than 2 missions.. like 1h of content before the demo ended.. am I missing something?

  2. I found the demo…..ok. But like all these games, it’ll need content, and to be supplied with content constantly.

Also, yeah, the cover system feels weak.

Division 2 was my favourite so far to date – haven’t played gears.

  3. IMO looter shooters have to be FTP, sub or BTP models don't really work for them, even Destiny 2 went FTP and it increased its playerbase a bunch as a result. This game might be interesting for a month or so but im not sure it is something i would play in a long run. And i love looter shooters, been playing Destiny 2 and Warframe for years now so im not new to the genre by any means. Remains to be seen how the game will go over time, it does look interesting and the gameplay feels decent from what i have seen in beta. Also just to point out, Anthem looked good when i played the demo of it, but when it released then the problems with it really came into light so im really going to have to see some final gameplay loops of this one before i fully commit

  4. its cos they stupidly designed it so you have to look at the cover for the cover execution to work, so if you are looking at a far away enemy and walk up to a wall and press cover it doesnt work, its a really dumb way to design the game mechanics, should be proximity based not what your crosshair is targeted on

  5. To me it feels like a cross between Remnant: From The Ashes and Mass Effect Multiplayer.

I like it, but it feels VERY 'console', so much so it came together a lot easier when I started using a controller. Graphically it's also a bit dated, and performance isn't as good as it should be with the graphic fidelity we're dealing with. Story and narrative in looter shooters don't mean much to me personally, so that's irrelevant. Progression seems good, and I really like the weapon/armour design.

Overall, it feels more indie then it is, and I'd like to play the full version, but don't see myself paying full price for it.

Thoroughly enjoyed demo.. few odd issues but with demo to be expected.. got a legendary auto not sure if intended at this stage in game but was cool brought lightening down from sky.. looked nice cosmetically.. on ps4 graphics were good cut scenes screen shake did make me feel a bit like a rocky boat ride lol.. but all in all I would give the demo an 8/10.. pre order has been made..myself an my 2 fellow outriders

  7. Agree to disagree. I think there some things they need to polish. Cut scenes FPS, throwing animations, covering behind walls. That I totally agree. I think… because this game has a long story campaign with side missions, the flow of the story and random cut scenes might have been weird to most because it was a Demo. Like, if it was fully released you would get more of a sample from it. I think a lot of people will change their minds when it’s fully out

  8. To me the demo was terrible since the game is 4 weeks away. Performance is mediocre, story, movement, cutscenes, shooting, lip sync and so on. Also annoying how there were loading screens like every 10 sec. Not worth 60$ and It's and insult that they think it is.

  9. So you've resorted to just blatantly ripping off LazyPoen straight down to the thumbnail and even font and text color. and to think he actually mentioned you in one of his videos.

  10. The janky cover system isn't an issue for me because I rarely took cover. Only to reload or to wait for an short moment for an ability to get off CD. In general I've always found the cover system in games like this to feel pretty….off. It's a strange thing to see that for the most part this kind of cover system hasn't evolved in over a decade. The only example of true evolution and not small iterative changes I can think of was the system used in the Tomb Raider reboot, and I think that solution was far superior to what most cover-based shooters choose to use. It was more organic, logical and flowed seamlessly into gameplay. Luckily this isn't a cover-based shooter, but rather a shooter with the ability to take cover. I binged the hell out of it yesterday and judging by the ending reel of what to expect, there's a lot of diversity in enemy, location and mission types. I'm quite keen to get my hands on the full game, but for now I'm gonna try out the other classes.

  11. It seems like a fun game. But, I agree, that jank down to 30fps is jarring. And, the cutscenes are annoying. The story is like a fun sci-fi movie. It's interesting. But I end up being more annoyed by the cutscenes than anything else.

  12. Couldn't agree more on the cutscenes. It's like the cameraman has Parkinson's disease. My biggest issue with cover is getting out of it quick when a grenade lands by me. I always get stuck trying to get out and soak up the hit. I think it's more my fault than anything but man it's annoying.

  13. i agree with everything you said here. I also tried it out last night with friends. The one additional issue I have with the game is that there are too many loading transitions… like WAAAAYY too many. The map is not even that big but its divided up like an old monster hunter game. Maybe it didnt bother you or you didnt notice because you were playing solo but it becomes VERY apparent and annoying in multiplayer because you cant go to the next 'section' of the map until the whole party is ready to go and there is nothing interesting to do in any of these zones after you clear out the enemies.
