Pally Reacts to Baldur's Gate 3 | Update 11 – Inspiration, Freedom & Pacifism

Baldur’s Gate III is an upcoming role-playing video game that is being developed and published by Larian Studios. It is the third main game in the Baldur’s Gate series, itself based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system. A partial version of the game was released in early access format for Microsoft Windows, the Stadia streaming service, and MacOS on 6 October 2020.

  1. There are 9 levels of spells. You would need to have on your bars almost all spells 9x for level 1, 8x for level 2, 7x for level three and so on… SO the new UI for the spells makes sense.

  2. Thank fuck someone agrees with me on the roll one thing. That is bullshit. The only people that should get that is halflings with their lucky racial attribute. I didn't know that you needed inspiration. That makes sense. Inspiration points are supposed to be super rare like they are in the tabletop. As long as they don't hand out inspiration alot it would be acceptable. But ye Im giving this one a skip for now. Im not downloading another full 64gb on my crappy 2MB dsl just to get this patch.

  3. in normal D&D, a bardic inspiration is a 2nd smaller dice that you roll and add to your d20 roll. Like you roll a 6 on a d20, but you roll a 5 on your d6, then you get a total of 11 and the inspiration is used up. The re-roll inspiration system they are talking about in this video is generally treated as table-top rpg training wheels. There are a bunch of simplified versions of the D&D engine that have this system because it is generally good for newer players, and incentivizes players to engage in story development instead of just murder-hoboing. Systems that are on the more complex side typically don't have this. I don't think it fits in Baldur's gate because the system is too complicated to ask people if they want to re-roll every fail, and you should not need to incentivize story development in a single player rpg. I bet that its actually here to ease the learning curve for large numbers of players that have not played D&D before this triple-A title, and will be taken out later in the release cycle when they think the player base no longer needs it.

  4. So wait, Larian chastises the player base for making boring, white, male, humans and then at the start of the video shows off a boring white male human for their update video? Am I missing something? 😉

  5. I 100% HATE the re-roll change. Really waters down the whole experience. There should really be an option to turn it off, as you said Pally. Other than that, great patch. Looking forward to the future of this game. It'll be one of the great ones.

  6. Dude, watch the whole part they talk about, and when they move on to the next thing, comment hahahaha – you rageing about surface effects of spells was funny when they later specified hehe.

  7. It was already mentioned on forums that the reroll stuff will be optional settings and they're testing out a lot of roll methods that will all be optional. Inspiration is a DnD 5e mechanic that if you had good roleplaying the DM would reward you with an Inspiration point that (based on DM) could let you turn any roll to a 1 or a 20. Or let you reroll something, ect.

  8. Please try actual Dungeons and Dragons. Ideally, in-person (when it's safe), and with an experienced DM. I think you would absolutely love it. You can also do it online with services like Roll20.

  9. I REALLY hope they don't change everything to be pure to 5e as some rules on that don't make sense and make some build choices garbage, resulting in people only taking certain builds. A prime example is dual wielding. In 5e you can't use your bonus attack if you haven't attacked with your main hand as an action. One of the more fun builds I've made on this is dual wield battlemage and a large part is being able to cast a spell/cantrip and attack in the same turn. The 5e rules really limit this and just makes no sense.

  10. Inspiration points are usually awarded by a DM. It's sort of like the Luck feat that exists that allows some rerolls per day, but instead of a skill a DM can choose to give them to players who perform well in game. Usually by pulling off something amazing, like good roleplay, diplomacy, military tactics, whatever fits the campaign.

How would this work in a video game format? Probably a rare thing for choosing moral extremes, one way or the other depending on the character or faction you're interacting with.

  11. Also. Asterion would like to mention that his shoulders and back are sore from carrying Gale and Shadowhearts dead asses in the last play through. Mr Ice and magic missiles spent more time in the after-life than Asterion did and hes technically undead…

  12. 4:54 I just want to point out here that cantrips still create surfaces in specific circumstances. So if you cast it on a puddle of blood or water, for example, then it will turn that puddle to ice. There is a staff that you can buy early on in the game from the halfling vendor that gives you the ability to make it rain. You buy that, use the rain to make a giant puddle, then immediately hit it with a Ray of Frost cantrip. Should make for some fun times. 🥸

  13. So they nerfed Shadowheart's attitude because she hurt somebody's feelings. At this rate, if they'll keep listening to "feedback", they'll have to rename her to "Cuddlyheart" before they'll release the game…

  14. Anyone concerned they may be releasing content a tad slow? It almost feels like interest in this game is waning before the game has even reached half completion ><

Hope I'm wrong, but I've noticed views and talk about this game has died down…..SIGNIFICANTLY in the last couple weeks.
