  1. If relief is average and the three starters perform well..this team could win 90 games..
One major problemme is Hoskins…hes a bum at the plate and horrendous defensively….already almost gave up the game yesterday with that atrocious blunder…forced NOLA to work harder and maybexthats y he allowed the hr to panda…

  2. What a great win. Nola was outstanding with the exception of one pitch. We flashed some serious leather, and the bullpen pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Apparently, the Phillies didn't get the memo that the national media has already anointed the Braves winners of the NL East. GO PHILLIES!!

  3. Last year the Phillies impossibly bad bullpen blew FOURTEEN games after being handed the ball with at least a 2 run lead. They finished with an ERA above SEVEN. That was good for the second highest bullpen ERA of ALL TIME. Baseball has been around FOREVER and they were only able to allow less earned runs per 9 innings than 1 bullpen in history (1930 Phillies). So if they even had an average bullpen last year they probably would’ve won the division or at least would’ve been very close. Their lineup scored the 5th most runs in MLB and their rotation had an rWAR of 5.2. The Dodgers NL best rotation posted a 5.9. They finished 28-32. If the bullpen doesn’t blow just HALF of the 14 multiple run leads last season they win 35 games and at least tie the Braves for first place. It’s not possible to exaggerate how bad or how devastating the Phillies bullpen was last year. Dave Dombrowski did a solid job in bringing DiDi and JT back, adding decent arms for rotation depth and Brad Miller to their bench. But his biggest accomplishment and main objective from the day he got to Philadelphia was completely rebuilding that damn bullpen. He signed Archey Bradley who is just a good reliever. He also signed Brandon Kintzler who has posted an ERA of 2.50ish in more than 80 innings the last 2 seasons but is now 36 years old. They still have Hector Nerris. Other than that he made low risk moves to bring in a bunch of guys who throw hard but have struggled recently due to injuries. He’s taking the very smart approach of acquiring a ton of guys with high ceilings due to their high velocity without giving much up for them. Bradley, Alvarado, and Nerris should easily be league average so he’s only betting on 2 of the low risk guys to pan out. That’s the best strategy for a team that literally had the worst bullpen since 1930 last year and if it works out the Phillies will surprise a lot of people this season. They will score runs. They have one of the best 1-2 combos at the top of their rotation. They have a plus 3rd starter and rotation depth at the back end. The bullpen is their achilles heal and Dombrowksi did the best anyone could of possibly done to give them a shot at fixing that big problem.
