This is a really basic comparison of the 3D Headphone audio available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles.
Drop a comment to say which one sounds best!
00:00 Xbox Dolby Atmos
02:12 PlayStation Tempest
04:28 Xbox Windows Sonic
06:23 Xbox DTS:X
There aren’t many games that fully leverage spatial 3D audio right now, but when more of those come to market we can look at a more comprehensive comparison so let us know if you want to see (or hear) more.
PlayStation Tempest 3D Headset Audio is free, and so is Windows Sonic for Xbox/PC.
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X require purchasing a one-time license.

DOLBY ATMOS IS AMAZING
Which one sounds best?
Not really sure what the point of this is? You either play the game on a PS5 with Tempest directly processed to your headphones or you are playing the game on Xbox with either Atmos, DTSX or Sonic.
You are not going to get a true representation of either consoles audio processing from this video as the sound will again be further processed by the console or device that you are using…. Particularly if you are watching this video with headphones or the external phone speaker as you watch this taking your daily crap.
Enjoy the console you play it on and get a good set of headphones that can deploy a decent amount of bass and mid dynamic range, budget depending….
Only Tempest plays in 3d audio for me. Rest are upmix stereo on my headset
Sounds exactly the same on my laptop.
Dolby Atmos is utterly superior 👍
me listening this from 20$ headfone : ok
I dont think this game even support Atmos. Where did you find that info? It wasnt mentioned on next gen upgrade. Nor is it on any Atmos list. It for sure isnt playing in 3D in this video either 🧐
3D audio works for every version. Windows Sonic sounds clearest to me but I don't hear the distance of the sound source.Tempest is clear for sound source in the line of sight, the rear and side sources are kind of muffled. Atmos has clear sound from every side and I can hear the distance. I cannot test the DTS:X as I don't have it. Atmos is the best for me.
Wait, how is this a test of anything? How are we supposed to tell if our devices only support one of these, or none? Are all three codecs even supported through YouTube, and at the same time in a single video?
Xbox fans will say Dolby sounds better, PlayStation fans will say Tempest is superior… That much is obvious 🤦♂️
Still regret paying 80$ for this shit
Aaaaaand Dolby Atmos wins. Just listen to Hulk laugh at the beginning that’s all you need to compare. Headphones required peeps.
I do not rock headphones I do not care about them I have a 7 channel receiver and sound so good you can keep your headphones
Atmos looks great . All are good
Actually YouTube got a very low Sound quality so the difference is pretty minor on the most important aspect.
I prefer Atmos in most cases, DTSX is really awesome, but there are Games who sound better on Windows Sonic, just because the mixing fits better.
Tempest isn't bad too – funny to hear how they all fake their Stereo Sound to Surround.
Atmos music to my ears
This video is useless garbage
I found Atmos to be the most immersive by miles, good directional sound and distinction between sound ranges. There was a real distinction between sounds even when it was getting loud and chaotic and I could really clearly make out where the sounds where coming from, even though the sound range was still very full and immersive. Even the voice (I'm guessing it's Jarvis) had a real feeling of internalisation compared to the rest of the sound. Windows Sonic had nowhere near the range of Atmos, and whilst directional was good, it just wasn't as clear overall. Tempest also has good directional audio, but it had a real low muffle to it and when there were loud bangs and crunches it all just got messy. I couldn't distinguish other sounds when things were getting loud and chaotic. DTS had the best directional sound and clarity, but for me it's way too "sharp". Probably good for competitive shooters, but less suited for more cinematic experiences and immersion in my opinion.
They all did the job, but I couldn't game with Tempest or Windows Sonic unless I didn't have any other choice. Atmos all the way.
