One of the biggest themes in console gaming and PC gaming was hardware shortages, with gamers unable to purchase things like the PS5, Xbox Series X,RTX 30 GPUs, Ryzen 5000 CPUs and RX 6000 GPUs. Now, according to a new report it seems that Sony’s Playstation 5 next gen console, alongside manufacturing and packaging issues, are the cause of the next gen hardware availability issues. So let’s dive into why this, examining everything from TSMC’s production to the demand of both Sony and Microsoft for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Demand for top end graphics cards such as the RTX 3080 and RX 6800 XT are almost a meme at this point, so we analyse the new report which has surfaced and what it could mean for future availability of hardware.

There is also new information on the Nintendo Switch Pro, which has been long rumoured at this point. We’ve heard a few times now that the Switch Pro upgrade will be a 4K console, but new information today gives an alleged look at the hardware for the Switch Pro 4K console. Recent comments from analysts have suggested that we will see a Switch Pro this year, but will it be enough to earn Nintendo a spot alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles?

  1. About the Switch PRO:
that Mariko Chip has been in use for a couple of years already! Its the shrinked, improved Chip that they use since I think 2019 in the normal Switch and the Switch Lite…

  2. There was an amd.com drop 4 hours ago, I missed it because I didn't think there would br a drop at that time and went to make breakfast… R.I.P. I watched for a month for that drop to happen. I hope it means amd is back to weekly restocks of their site.

  3. My guess for the "new Switch" is somehting that Nintendo always did a couple of years later:
A bigger Version with mostly the same specs. Aka: Switch XL.
The "4k Realtek Multimedia SOC" might be something that could, for example, be in the Dock and do something like Netflix at 4K. And maybe that's the 4k they're talking about?

  4. Switch pro: better sound, 30fps games that are already at 1080p 60fps, 540p games 720p and 720p 1080p, oled screen with HDR, no reason for 4k the game’s have 360 graphics why would you want 4k for 360 games let alone ps4 games. 4k only makes sense for current gen stuff and even then 1440p is ok

  5. Nintendo would be stupid to launch in this chip shortage. Also did I hear you right, no game card slot. That wouldn't sit well with most switch owners who buy physical as storage is limited. I have a 400gb card filled with at least 20 plus games that I don't have room for. Also have 25 cart games that I would hate to loose out on an upgrade for.

  6. Let’s hope next version of switch is at least pascal or turning base or newer. And has at least 8+ GB memory or more. 12+ would be better. ESP if they wish to do 4k. Though even 1440p req more memory. Really wish Nintendo would go back to base console box. Keep switch as mobile device. And out next gen Harvard in box. But making both compatible. Even if they do show new switch pro or new next gen system. I doubt they be enough units made and scalpers and Bots will just jump on them and sell them at stupid ridiculous prices.

  8. As someone who mines, 6000 series availability has almost nothing to do with mining imo. The 5700 is significantly cheaper and has better returns per watt making it overall a better option. These are perf per watt superior to 6000 series.

30series may be another matter. The 3080 is great for density but power consumption is a bit meh. 3060ti is very good.

  9. You know Nintendo may really have the upper hand in upcoming consoles. The most interesting thing is how the gpu wars will hopefully continue to drive innovation and drive improved included technologies within the graphics processing environment i.e. DLSS, RT, etc. But also with Nvidia's ARM acquisition and what Nintendo could potentially do with that, on top of MCM. I would love to see Nintendo take full advantage and pack future iterations of the Switch with absolutely monstrously powerful hardware and software. Not to mention mini led techs coming up. The future is bright!

  10. Miners won't be buying up these new AMD GPUs. The performance for this kind of workload has been tested and RDNA2 for the products that have been released so far are not good for that use case. That could be a problem for Ampere, but not RDNA2, or else these miners don't have a brain, and most miners I'M SURE do their research since they're going to be running systems 24/7.

So, it's simply about the supply side not keeping up with demand along with scalpers buying product as soon as the have the money to buy more.

  11. PS5 is to blame now? Demand is to blame? I call ULTRA BS. The quarterly reports for AMD and nVidia at the end of this month will tell the tale. If they have good quarters, they're selling something to get that money. Check that against the shipments to retailers around the globe and you'll find that consumers are NOT getting any appreciable amount of product. I suspect it's all being shipped in bulk to crypto miners. Cover for the GPU manufacturers all you want – I can smell a RAT. So far as the CPUs are concerned, if the 7nm GPUs are where the money is to be made, you can bet your bottom dollar that is where the manufacturing resources will be directed.
